Following the surprising conclusion of last night's "Flash" episode, next week's installment -- "The Runaway Dinosaur" -- will see Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) venturing into completely unknown territory. The promo for the episode hints that Barry's become unstuck in time, and the photos just released by the CW confirm that notion, but something else is going on here. After all, the promo shows Barry interacting with the Joe West of the past, and the pics show him conversing with his mother Nora (Michelle Harrison).

"The Runaway Dinosaur" is also Kevin Smith's directorial debut with the show. A few shots of the fan favorite film director working on set are included in the batch of promo photos. And next week's episode is just the first installment to be directed by Smith; it's been announced that the director will be back behind the camera in early season three.

KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS -- With Barry (Grant Gustin) gone, the team must figure out a way to handle the return of an old enemy -- Girder (guest star Greg Finley). Realizing Girder is retracing his steps from his last attack, Iris (Candice Patton) volunteers to act as bait to trap him in S.T.A.R. Labs. Meanwhile, Barry fights to return to his old life. Kevin Smith directed the episode written by Zack Stentz (#221). Original airdate 5/10/2016.

"The Flash" airs on Tuesdays at 8 PM ET on the CW.
