Filming on Sony's "The Dark Tower" film is well underway, and photos from set have begun to surface online under the #DarkTower hashtag. A handful of said photos reveal the film's setting as well as some of its props, including a prosthetic of a demonic nun.
In the film adaptation of the popular series of Stephen King's novels, Idris Elba will star as Roland Deschain, aka the Gunslinger, and Matthew McConaughey will play the villainous sorcerer the Man in Black. They’re joined by “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress Abbey Lee as Tirana; Tom Taylor, who will play Jake Chambers; and Fran Kranz as Pimli, the Man in Black's right-hand man. King has clarified that instead of adapting his 1982 novel “The Gunslinger,” the film will instead start “in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning."
Director Nikolaj Arcel wrote the screenplay with Anders Thomas Jensen, Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Goldsman will produce, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins.
The first “Dark Tower” film, part of a planned trilogy, is set to premiere Feb. 17, 2017.
