The promotion for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has ramped up considerably in the weeks following Comic-Con, with new official stills and magazine covers popping up online. Those photos have given fans a glimpse of what the finished film may look like, but these new behind-the-scenes pics show just what went into making the production.

ComicBookMovie has scans of the photos, as seen in the pages of the latest "Batman v Superman"-filled issue of "Empire," and the images reveal new looks at everyone from Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) to Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), the Daily Planet staff (Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne) and Alfred (Jeremy Irons). There's even a shot of acclaimed director Ben Affleck -- in his Batsuit -- standing behind the camera next to "BvS" director Zack Snyder.

The accompanying article, as transcribed by CBM, quotes Snyder as saying that they are playing Batman as being "45 or 46," and that he's "been Batman for 20 years. All the history is there." That history apparently includes putting the Joker, Harley Quinn and the rest of "Suicide Squad's" Task Force X in prison.

Snyder also spoke to how Superman's arrival affects this hardened version of Batman's philosophy. "We want to assume that Batman has reached this point in his life and career as a superhero, and Superman represents a sort of philosophical change," said Snyder. "He is a paradigm shift for Batman: 'I've been fighting criminals all my life, trying to find justice, and now I am confronted with a concept that is transcendent to me.' In the face of Superman, a man robbing a bank doesn't matter."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens on March 25, 2016.
