Long-Brewing Sin City Sequel Ropes In The Departed Writer

William Monohan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Departed, has been recruited by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller to tackle the script for their long-discussed sequel to Sin City. Heat Vision reports the writer will supplement a draft recently completed by Miller, who created the neo-noir comics series and co-directed the 2005 film with Rodriguez.

Rodriguez revealed last month at Comic-Con International that he’d secured financing for the film, called A Dame to Kill For — that’s the title of the second story in Miller’s series — and could begin production as early as this year. “That’s the best scenario,” he said. “If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen this year.” The sequel will follow the format of the original film, combining two new stories with adaptations of previously published work.

Sin City, which had an estimated budget of $40 million, grossed nearly $159 million worldwide.

Monohan, who’s been a hot commodity since winning his Academy Award, is working on the Tom Cruise-Joe Kosinski sci-fi film Horizons (formerly Oblivion), and will reunite with The Departed director Martin Scorsese for a remake of the 1974 drama The Gambler.
