There are few villains in the Marvel Universe with a more storied career than Loki. One of the greatest villains to bedevil Marvel's mightiest heroes, Loki has used his abilities as the Norse God of Mischief to spread chaos and discord. In recent years, he's embraced a different way of doing things, jumping between hero and villain but always looking out for number one.

Loki is known for his powerful tricks and magic, but he's just as formidable a fighter as he is a schemer, learning to fight alongside his brother Thor and the other Asgardian warriors. There are many out there who seem like they should beat Loki but don't stand a chance.

10 Should Be Able To Beat Loki: Green Lantern

green lantern

Green Lantern has found himself in battle against all manner of foes over the years, from earthly supervillains to universe shaking titans, and can be considered one of the greatest heroes in the DC Universe. Hal Jordan's nearly unshakeable willpower has allowed him to manifest some truly creative constructs that have won the day for him on many occasions.

Hal Jordan has proven himself the greatest Green Lantern of them all, taking on all comers and triumphing. While Loki is a compelling opponent, Jordan has been facing down the worst the DCU has to offer and has a good chance of taking down the God of Mischief.

9 Why He Can't Beat Loki: He's Too Headstrong

loki marvel

One of Green Lantern's greatest strengths and weaknesses is how headstrong he is. It's allowed him to overcome great odds and fear, but it's also led him to rush into some situations. While he's usually been able to pull his fat out of the fire, it's not the best way of doing things, and it's one that will allow Loki to get the best of him.

Loki's a born trickster and knows how to manipulate his foes. Hal Jordan's headstrong nature will make him easy for Loki to trap and use his powerful magic to ruin Green Lantern's day. Jordan just isn't used to battling someone like Loki. He'll try to do what he always does, which will cost him.

8 Should Be Able To Beat Loki: Zatanna

DC Comics Zatanna

Zatanna is one of the most powerful sorcerers on the planet. Using her backward talking magic and years of mystical experience, Zatanna has been fighting the good fight and protecting the world from the gravest magical threats. She's done some great things with her magic, helping her allies in the Justice League and beyond in their battles when a little mystical know-how is needed.

Zatanna has faced some of the worst and most powerful foes in her time, using her magic and sheer tenacity to triumph. Loki's magical knowledge is greater, but Zatanna's power and experience may give her what she needs to defeat Loki.

7 Why She Can't Beat Loki: He Has Way More Experience

Loki Casually Tossing Thor's Hammer

Zatanna is as a canny a mage as they come. Her father, Zatara, began her magical education at a young age, and she's faced down all manner of the mystical enemy over the years. While this makes her one of the most experienced magic users around, she really can't stand up to Loki's vastly greater experience.

Loki has been tricking and ensnaring mortal magic users in his webs for years, and as good as Zatanna is, she doesn't have the power at her disposal as Loki does. She'd put up a good fight and might even be able to get through the first layer of Loki's machinations... and that would be all a part of Loki's plan.

6 Should Be Able To Beat Loki: Doctor Fate

Doctor Fate has been fighting evil for a very long time. The Helmet of Fate has been passed down through many bearers over the years, making them into powerful sorcerers. With the help of the Lord of Order, Nabu, who resides in the helmet, Doctor Fate has access to the amazing power and magical knowledge, which has allowed Fate to triumph over all manner of foe, whether it be with the Justice League or Justice Society.

With the power of Nabu at his disposal, Doctor Fate could prove to be a match for the God of Mischief. Fate had faced down beings of Loki's caliber before and won, so he may be able to take out Loki as well.

5 Why He Can't beat Loki: Loki Is A God

The Lord of Order, Nabu, powers doctor Fate, and this power, combined with all of the knowledge in the Tower of Fate, has allowed Fate to defeat many foes. However, Loki has the might of a god behind his magic, and that's going to make all the difference. Fate is powerful, but Loki has been using and learning incomparable magic for millennia.

Loki's power is greater than Nabu's, and his knowledge is greater than what Fate has. While he may not be able to trick Fate, he could overpower him, and that will make all the difference. It won't be how Loki likes to win, but sometimes, brute force wins where tricks can't.

4 Should Be Able To Beat Loki: Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter Alex Ross

Martian Manhunter is one of the most powerful heroes in the DC Universe. He has more individual powers than many teams of heroes- super strength and durability, speed, flight, telepathy, the ability to turn invisible and intangible, fire force blasts from his eyes, and shapeshift. With powers like his, there aren't many foes who can stand toe with J'onn J'onnz.

As a Justice League member, Martian Manhunter has faced down all kinds of foes. With powers and skills like his, Martian Manhunter would be able to put up a fight the likes of which Loki has rarely gotten and perhaps defeat him.

3 Why He Can't Beat Loki: He Wouldn't Be Able To See Through Loki's Tricks

King Loki

Martian Manhunter's telepathy is one of his greatest powers and should allow him to see through anything Loki throws at him. However, Loki has found himself up against even greater telepaths, and his tricks have held up very well. In fact, Loki's trickery really only has to do one thing- reveal Martian Manhunter's rather mundane weakness.

Loki is used to out-thinking his foes, and while out thinking Martian Manhunter would be harder than Loki's brother Thor, Loki would be able to do it and use what he learned against Martian Manhunter, ensnaring him in and taking him down.

2 Should Be Able To Beat Loki: Shazam

Future State Shazam feature

Shazam is a rather unlikely hero- a child granted the gods' power by the Wizard Shazam. However, he's proven time and again that a hero's age doesn't matter- what's in his heart does. Shazam has found himself in battle with all kinds of foes over the years and stopped all of them, using his mighty power and unmatched tenacity to carry the day.

Shazam has rarely faced a foe like Loki's likes, but he has powers that would allow him to see through Loki's tricks. Shazam is strong enough to fight the Norse god and overpower him physically directly.

1 Why He Can't Beat Loki: He's Still Just A Kid

Dark Reign Loki Cropped

Even with Solomon's wisdom, Shazam is still just a kid, and that's going to make a lot of difference in a battle with Loki. He may be able to see through Loki's tricks, but Loki will realize quickly that Shazam is just a kid playing at being an adult. This would open up many options that Loki can use in the battle.

Shazam would be able to overpower Loki, but once the God of Mischief realizes what he's dealing with, he'll formulate a strategy that will allow him to defeat Shazam. Loki would allow Shazam just enough leeway to think the fight was won before springing his true trap and taking the hero down.
