Loki head writer Michael Waldron teased the new Loki variants while confirming whether the reptilian one is a crocodile or alligator.

Speaking to CBR, Waldron talked about the four Loki variants -- Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki, Deobia Oparei's Boastful Loki, Jack Veal's Kid Loki and a mysterious reptilian God of Mischief -- seen in the mid-credits scene for Episode 4, "The Nexus Event," stating, "I don't want to go into too much detail. The next episode, obviously, we might be seeing more of those guys."

"You know, I think it was drawing inspiration from the comics, certainly," he added. "You can see a young whippersnapper Loki there that folks will recognize from the comics. I loved the idea of seeing him. Richard E. Grant in the slime green outfit, that's an ode to the original Loki costume. So it was just trying to pick some of the iconic versions, as well as an alligator."

When CBR asked Waldron to clarify if the reptilian Loki variant is a "Crokidile or a Lokigator," he replied, "Let me give you the breaking news scoop: it is an alligator. Heard it here first!" This aligns with what John White of the Virginia Herpetological Society told Esquire following the episode's premiere on Disney+. "Unlike alligators, crocodiles have an exposed 4 tooth on the lower jaw. The animal in [the mid-credits scene] is an American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis)," said White.

Prior to Episode 4, audiences had already met another Loki variant in the form of Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie. While the character is named after Sylvie Lushton/Enchantress from Marvel's comic books, Waldron and Loki director Kate Herron confirmed she's an original creation, rather than an adaptation of either Enchantress or Lady Loki in the comics.

"You know, she is ultimately a Loki variant, but one who is her own person and has been shaped into even more of her own person separate from the Loki we know," Waldron added.

Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
