Loki star Tom Hiddleston recently teased the plot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series' upcoming second season.

Hiddleston discussed Loki Season 2 in a joint interview with his co-stars Sophia Di Martino, and Ke Huy Quan conducted by Entertainment Weekly at D23 Expo 2022. "Season 2 is kind of a challenge of a question asked of the [Time Variance Authority] itself," he said. "A battle for the soul of the TVA." Quan then jumped in to praise the second season's story, calling it "really good" and saying that he was excited for audiences to see it. Following Quan's comments, Hiddleston added that the intense secrecy surrounding Loki Season 2 was intended to maximize fans' enjoyment when they watch it for the first time.

Marvel Studios is famous for going to great lengths to keep story and character specifics under wraps prior to a project's release and reprimanded at least one member of the Loki cast for sharing spoilers about Season 1. Owen Wilson, who plays TVA agent Mobius M. Mobius, recently recalled being scolded by Marvel Studios "multiple times" during the first season's promotional circuit and described talking about the series as tricky. "[Y]ou definitely are kind of walking on eggshells," he said. "Like, you know, 'cause you're not quite sure -- now, did this happen in Episode 3 or 4 or 1, or have they already seen it?"

Loki Season 2 Plot Details Continue to Surface

That said, Loki Season 2 plot details continue to emerge online, despite Marvel Studios' best efforts to preserve the next season's secrets. Thanks to unofficial set photos that began doing the rounds online in July 2022, fans now know that Loki Season 2 will take place at least partly in 1970s London. These same photos also confirm that Loki and Mobius will don period-appropriate tuxedoes and will apparently show up at a movie premiere attended by the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Subsequent snaps from the Loki Season 2 set indicate that the series will include scenes set in the 1970s or 80s, as well. This detail was seemingly confirmed by the retro production and costume design on display at the McDonald's restaurant where filming took place, including a vintage uniform sported by Di Martino's Sylvie. Aside from her McDonald's outfit, Di Martino was also photographed on the set in another costume that closely resembles her combat-ready attire in Loki Season 1, hinting at her inevitable return to action in Season 2.

All six episodes of Season 1 of Loki are streaming now on Disney+. Season 2 is set for a mid-2023 release.
