Loki is yet another feather in the MCU's cap, continuing the quality that the new Disney+ shows have become known for. Full of great Easter eggs, it's almost certainly setting up all kinds of stories for the future of the MCU but it's also done something that fans have wanted for years- putting a spotlight on the God of Mischief, Loki.

While fans have done some speculating about who might appear in the show, the reveal of Sylvie, a female Loki from another timeline, has had fans buzzing and it's also led to something else- not only have fans shipped the two Lokis but apparently so has Loki. However, there are pros and cons to the two getting together.

10 They Should Get Together: It Rewards Fan Engagement

Loki has always been a favorite for fans who enjoyed shipping culture. It's hard to deny that Tom Hiddleston is a handsome actor and that he invested Loki with a lot of charm. Even as a villain, Loki was easily one of the most magnetic characters on screen and the character launched a thousand ships, much like Helen of Troy.

Shipping culture is a huge part of Internet fandom and engaging with it is a good idea because it validates the legions of fans that enjoy it. Listening to the fans in this way works to promote brand loyalty, which is always a good thing.

9 They Shouldn't Get Together: Letting Fans Dictate Stories Isn't Always The Best Idea

While studios engaging with fans is a very good thing, letting fans dictate how stories are told isn't exactly great. Now, sure, the show was written before the ship even sailed but shippers will take it as their voice mattering a bit too much. They'll expect their ships to happen and if they don't, there will be a backlash.

There are so many ways for Loki to go in the future but catering too much to fans is not the best way to do things. Alan Moore famously said that the audience doesn't know what they want and that's why they're the audience - catering to them too closely can lead to disaster.

8 They Should Get Together: It's An Excuse To Keep Sylvie Around

Sylvie is the very definition of a breakout character. She's such an interesting, rich character and it's easy to feel how different she is from Loki. Her life was taken from her and that event changed everything, putting her on the run, doing whatever it took to survive and get revenge.

Loki has been in a lot of movies but fans have only spent a little while with Sylvie. Putting the two in a relationship gives an excuse to keep her around. The story can go so many ways with Sylvie and Loki as a couple and if it means that fans get to spend more time with her, then that's a very good thing.

7 They Shouldn't Get Together: It Limits Sylvie If She Stays Around

Mobius and Sylvie

One of the great things about shows now compared to the past is that the writers actually write women to be people instead of just as character development for a male character. Putting the two of them together is a simple way of keeping her in the show but it also pigeonholes her and gives her one role - the sassy girlfriend.

Sylvie is so much better than that and she deserves to shine on her own, without being attached to Loki's story. She isn't Lady Loki from the comics; she's Sylvie and she's special. Keeping her in Loki's story by making her his girlfriend is a grave disservice to a character with so much potential.

6 They Should Get Together: It Shows New Facets Of Loki

Fans are used to seeing Loki in a couple of ways- as a villain or as an anti-hero with a bit of a soft spot for his brother Thor. Showing him care about someone else, even someone who is basically him, was a big change and one that could show even more facets to the character.

Putting Loki in a relationship with Sylvie means that fans will get to see more parts of Loki, as they see how he deals with being in a relationship and what that sort of thing does to the character. How does a person like Loki deal with love? It opens up new avenues for him.

While a relationship between the two is a way to see more of Sylvie and new sides of Loki, any hope of it working out is pretty much impossible, at best. In fact, any fan worth their salt can easily see how the whole thing will go. Two Gods of Mischief together may be fun and games first, but there's no way it's going to stay that way.

Their relationship is doomed from the start because neither one of them is the trusting type - it's pretty much against their nature. Even if they overcome that, Loki is chaos personified and two of them together is certain to fall apart due to them just getting bored and causing mischief in the other's life.

4 They Should Get Together: No One Else Could Keep Up With A Loki Like A Loki

Lady Loki Sylvie

One of the things about Loki and his relationships is that there's no possible way any man or woman could handle him for very long. He's the God of Mischief and there's no way he isn't a massive handful. When it comes right down to it, the only person who could be with a Loki is another Loki.

While Sylvie has had a very different life than her male counterpart, that doesn't mean she doesn't understand him. In fact, she probably understands him better than anyone else. On top of that, her innate Loki-ness means any problems he would have in relationships, she would as well. They're perfect for each because they are each other.

3 They Shouldn't Get Together: Having Loki Come Out As Bisexual And Then Putting Him With A Woman Is A Safe And Boring Choice

Marvel Studios and Disney+'s Loki Episode 4

One of the biggest changes that Loki brought to the title character was revealing he was bisexual, which meant a lot as it came during Pride month. Fans had been waiting for the MCU to introduce an LGBTQIA+ character for some time and Loki makes a lot of sense to be the first. However, immediately putting him with a woman after that feels a bit too safe and boring.

There's even a male character right there in the show that Loki could have a relationship with - Agent Mobius. Putting him with Sylvie after having come out makes it feel like Marvel Studios is pandering to two different audiences.

2 They Should Get Together: As A Narcissist, Of Course He's Going To Love Himself

At one point, Mobius talks about how much of a narcissist Loki is and there's a lot of truth in those words. While fans have seen him do selfless things, most of his actions have served him in some way. So, the fact that Sylvie is a Loki and he has feelings for her makes perfect sense - any narcissist comparable to Loki would end up falling in love with themselves.

Loki and Sylvie falling for each other is a just about perfect match. Sylvie's narcissism may not be as evident but as a Loki, it's almost certainly there and for that reason, the two of them would gravitate towards each other.

1 They Shouldn't Get Together: It's Pretty Icky

Loki and Sylvie getting together isn't technically anything illegal or wrong but that doesn't mean it isn't icky. In fact, when the ship first started circulating, Twitter users were already actively rebelling against it and the people who shipped them. The shock when it was revealed that, at the very least, Loki himself was down for it was voluminous.

It's just an icky thing all around and for a lot of the audience, that's enough to make it distasteful. What Internet shippers find appealing can be very different from what general audiences do.
