Many already know the complicated family history of Loki Laufeyson. Born to King Laufey, King of the Frost Giants of Jötunheimr. He was adopted by Odin and Freya and raised as their own next to Thor and Balder. He eventually comes to hate Thor for being next in line for the crown, and in a scheme to defeat the God of Thunder, actually creates the Avengers. He's been reborn and re-introduced as a woman, a child, and an old man.

But in the comics, Loki's relationships do not just extend to complicated family history. Because of his mischief and desire to see Asgard brought back to its days of glory, Loki formed several bonds and relationships with multiple characters within the Marvel Universe, aside from Thor and Odin. He's had children, lovers, and even friends with whom he saw the end of the world. Although many later came to despise him, some stayed true to him till the end.

Updated on August 5th, 2021 By Anthony Mazzuca: Loki's always been someone who easily manipulates others, never growing too attached to anyone for fear of getting burned by them. One of the big reasons why he avoids relationships is because he doesn't want to lose them, leading to a self-fulfilling prophecy. With the first season of his Disney+ series ended, it felt fitting to address the two relationships he forged in it as well as expanding on the familial ties he had in the comic books.

15 Mobius & Loki Were A Buddy Cop Duo That Filled A Void Each Of Them Had

Mobius And Loki Hugging Each Other

While Loki and Sylvie got more screentime for their relationship in the Loki TV series, the more developed bond was Loki and Mobius. At first, the two were merely trying to use one another to get what they wanted, but as time went on, they started to fill a void each of them had in their hearts.

A big story beat in the series was that Loki never had a friend, never connecting with anyone. That's exactly what Mobius was and made the final scene where Mobius didn't remember him all the more impactful.

14 Lorelei Was Forced To Love Loki Thanks To Her Sister Amora's Spell

lorelei marvel comics

Lorelei was the sister of Amora, better known as the Enchantress. Much like her sister, Lorelai was smitten with Thor, something that Loki used to his advantage. He got her to pursue him, trying to get the two to fall in love so he could go about his plans for the throne uninterrupted.

Unfortunately for them, Amora didn't approve of her sister as a love rival. She cast a spell on Odin's scepter of power so that the next time Lorelai saw Loki, she'd fall in love with him instead.

13 Fenris Is One Of Loki's Children Who Lacks A Human Form

Fenris marvel comics

Due to Loki and his lover Angerboda being shapeshifters, Fenris lacked a human form and was no more than a rabid wolf. He stands up to 15 feet tall, and like his parents, does have the ability to shapeshift if he chooses to.

Rarely is that the case, as he seems to prefer the form he was born with. Much like Loki, Fenris was an outcast with the gods, treated as too dangerous to allow freedom. It's why the prophecy of Ragnarok states that he will be the one to kill Odin.

12 Angerboda Is The Mother Of Hela & Oft-Forgotten In The Comics

Angerboda marvel

Angerboda is rarely referenced in comics as her sole purpose was to give birth to three monsters, the Midgard Serpent, Fenris, and Hela. With that deed done, her backstory in the comics is minimalized. All that's known is she was a giantess from Jotunheim and related to Elder Gods Cthon and Set.

Beyond that, not much is known. The only time she ever made a comic appearance was to help Thor find a way into Hel after Hela stole the souls of mortals.

11 Sylvie & Loki Were The Unlikeliest Of Companions

loki and sylvie tv show

When they first met each other, it never looked like Loki and Sylvie would get along with one another in the television series. For one, they had a different goal— and secondly, they were both Loki's.

The entire second half of the season focused on their growing relationship with one another as they tried to find out who was behind the TVA. It all led to the ending sequence where Sylvie chose revenge over Loki, breaking his heart in the process.

10 Sigyn Was Tricked Into Becoming Loki's Wife

Sigyn Odin Marvel Comics

Early in the comics' history, Loki fell for a Goddess named Sigyn, who was already engaged to a member of Odin's Crimson Hawk guards, Theoric. To get Sigyn to marry him, Loki had Theoric killed and then impersonated him until they were wed.

Loki then revealed his trickery, which caused Odin to want to exile Loki since Asgardian law forbade marriage annulments. Being truthful to her vows, Sigyn chose to go with Loki after accepting the marriage, which led to her becoming the Goddess of Fidelity.

9 Hela Is Loki's Daughter In The Comics Rather Than Odin's

Loki Hela Marvel Comics

While Hela is depicted as the oldest of Odin's children in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is the daughter of Loki in the comics. Although writers never show when Loki met Hela's mother, the Norse Mythology of the comics fated that Hela would be born to Loki, the God of Mischief, and Angerboda, a Sorcerer Giantess from Jötunheimr.

Because of her power and the overall threat to Asgard, Loki rarely interacts with Hela, except when he needs something, which isn't surprising.

8 Angela Is Loki's Long Lost Sister From The Tenth Realm Of Heven

Loki Angela Marvel Comics

While Loki wants to do good, his way of looking at things and going about them puts him in some fairly suspicious positions. So his relationship with Noreen feels more trustworthy as a result.

Leah Loki Marvel Comics

After Loki was reincarnated as a child, his daughter Hela— who was older than him at the time— entrusted her handmaiden, Leah, to assist Loki in his travels. Throughout, Loki and Leah's relationship developed quickly due to the amount of time they spent together.

Their relationship even bordered the romantic, as they almost kissed more than once throughout their journeys. When Hela's hand was restored, Leah's life was absorbed by Hela, wherein Leah told Loki she was glad to have been his BFF. Her death broke Loki's heart.

But Zelma eventually comes to hate Loki after it is revealed the tournament for the title of Sorcerer Supreme was a hoax created by the God of Mischief himself to make Strange stronger for future world-ending events.

4 Verity Willis Forced Loki To Be Honest With Her Due To Her Power To See Through Lies

Verility Loki Marvel Comics

Verity Willis was Loki's best and only friend for the longest time. Verity had the power to tell lies from truth, which Loki found interesting, seeing as he was the God of Mischief. Because of Verity's power, she was the only person Loki was ever honest with since he knew lying to her would be pointless, as she accompanied him on several adventures.

Their bond was so strong that when the incursions had reached Earth at the beginning of the Secret Wars event, Loki had saved Verity's soul from accompanying him into the next universe.

3 Amora The Enchantress & Loki Have Always Been A Duo Trying To Take Down Thor

Amora Loki Marvel Comics

Amora the Enchantress working alongside Loki in a plot against Thor is as classic as the Sinister Six fighting Spider-Man. Ever since early Thor comics, Amora and Loki have worked together because of a common goal to defeat the God of Thunder; although, in Amora's case, it's usually to make him fall for her.

Some iterations of the duo have even depicted Amora as having feelings for Loki, but the two have always served as classic Thor-Villains Duo.

2 The Young Avengers Were Loki's Teammates When He Was Reborn As Kid Loki

Kid Loki with the Young Avengers Marvel Comics

After his death fighting The Void, Loki convinced Hela to keep his soul out of Hel, allowing himself to be reborn as a young boy from France during the Seige event. He later gains some of his previous memories and joins the Young Avengers after taking some of Wiccan's powers for himself. He fought with the teen heroes and even contemplated the nature of sexuality and gender identity with them - seeing as most of the members were part of the LGBT community.
