A CBR exclusive preview of Avengers #65 reveals that Loki's journey to becoming Marvel's most powerful hero required the death of Thor.

Avengers #65 comes from writer Jason Aaron, artist Javier Garrón, color artist David Curiel and letterer VC's Cory Petit. In Avengers Forever #13 (by Aaron, Aaron Kuder, Mark Farmer, Frank Martin and Petit), Marvel revealed the true, secret identity of Avenger Prime -- a character who was first teased in 2021's Free Comic Book Day Avengers/Hulk #1 and is said to be the most powerful Avenger in all the multiverse -- to be a Loki variant. "For in all the many universes, one thing is always constant," Avenger Prime said at the end of the issue when joining superheroes from across the multiverse in defending Avengers Tower from Doom Supreme. "You cannot have the Avengers...without a Loki to bring them together."

The preview for Avengers #65 sheds further light as to how Avenger Prime came to be as this version of Loki reveals Loki was just a child when Thor was killed after he flew directly into the sun while trying to tame Mjolnir. With Odin in shambles, Loki then rose up to become ruler of Asgard and sold his father as a slave to the Frost Giants. He proceeded to try and befriend a number of his variants from other universes; however, the attempts inevitably resulted in betrayal.
