Ms. Marvel head writer Bisha K. Ali apparently exercised influence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before her Disney+ TV series even arrived.

Ali revealed she slipped a Ms. Marvel Easter egg into Loki's "Lamentis" episode, which premiered in June 2021, long before she was even confirmed for Kamala's live-action show. In a post on her Twitter, the writer confirmed she met for Ms. Marvel and was "feeling hopeful" when overseeing the third episode of Loki as executive story editor. So, she decided to feature the "city of شروع" on the set of Lamentis as an advance nod to the transition she and the characters were facing. "Shuroo means 'to start' or 'the start,' and it's the start of something new for L & S: a transformation," Ali explained. "And writing that ep was the start of something new for me."

After her work on "Lamentis," Ali would become the creator, head writer and executive producer of Disney's Ms. Marvel. The show, which consisted of six episodes, has received critical and fan acclaim for its brave, stylistic portrayal of the young Pakistani-American experience. Starring Marvel Cinematic Universe newcomer Iman Vellani, the series has become one of Marvel Studios' highest-rated projects on Rotten Tomatoes to date. Ali is also known for her work as a writer on Four Weddings and a Funeral and Netflix's Sex Education.

Fans had the opportunity to see Ali incorporate more Urdu, the official language of Pakistan, into Ms. Marvel throughout the first season as Kamala explored her Pakistani heritage and traveled back in time to the Partition. As the native language of the Khan family, Urdu became a primary source of inspiration when tying Ms. Marvel's namesake to the character's culture. In the finale, Kamala's father reveals the Urdu word "Kamal" means "marvel," and Kamala, excited to have ties to Captain Marvel, embraces this as her new superhero name.

The Loki series, which premiered almost exactly one year before Ms. Marvel, followed the God of Mischief Loki Laufeyson after he became lost in time and faced off against a mysterious time organization called the Time Variance Authority. During Episode 3, Loki became trapped on a dying moon called Lamentis after his mission to help the TVA track down a deadly Loki variant went awry. There, he reluctantly teamed up with Sylvie, the fugitive variant, as they traveled to the city of Shuroo, hoping to escape on the plant's last launch ship.

The first seasons of Loki and Ms. Marvel are available to stream on Disney+.
