A brand-new promo for the upcoming Loki TV series on the Disney+ streaming service confirms that it is canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Loki is gender-fluid.The information was revealed in the file that the Time Variance Authority (TVA) has on Loki Laufeyson, making this a great deal more definitive as a plot development than had it just been mentioned in dialogue during an episode. RELATED: Loki Head Writer Promises 'Unexpected' CameosLoki being gender-fluid has long been a major aspect of the character in the comics, as there were long stints in the comics where Loki was a woman (Loki has also shape-shifted into other forms). During the Dark Reign storyline in Marvel Comics, when Norman Osborn took control of S.H.I.E.L.D. and helped form a supervillain equivalent of the Illuminati known as the Cabal, Loki was in the form of a woman throughout that whole storyline. In fact, during the Original Sin crossover, when Thor and Loki learned that they had a secret sister, Angela, Odin discussed his children in Original Sin #5.5 (by Jason Aaron, Al Ewing, Simone Bianchi, Lee Garbett, Szymon Kudranski, Marco Checchetto, Riccardo Pieruccini, Adriano Dall'Alpi, Nolan Woodard and Paul Mounts) and referred to them as “my son, and my daughter, and my child who is both."RELATED: Loki BTS Featurette Teases the MCU's Newest Locales and CharactersHowever, this is the first time that the MCU has confirmed that Loki is gender-fluid and that is a major change for the MCU, which has not even confirmed the fact that Valkyrie is bisexual just yet (despite initially meaning to do so in Thor: Ragnarok). It occurred in a promo for the new series, where we see a clip of the show (where a time-displaced Loki is forced to work for the TVA to correct other time anomalies) shown in the context of Loki's file by the seemingly omniscient TVA...

And right there, under "Sex" it lists "Fluid."

It is unclear whether this is simply just a cool Easter Egg for comic book fans or whether Loki's gender-fluidity will be referenced in the new series, which does seem to be heavily influenced by Marvel comic book history, so it would not be a surprise if it worked such a reference into the show's storyline.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series premieres June 9 on Disney+.
