Loki showrunner Michael Waldron said the God of Mischief will be confronting some existential questions about his identity in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Speaking with Forever Dogs Podcast, Waldron stated that Loki will be having a personal crisis in his new show, and that this theme is carried on from the character's first ten years in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"I think it's the struggle with identity, who you are, who you want to be," said Waldron. "I'm really drawn to characters who are fighting for control. Certainly you see that with Loki over the first ten years of movies, he's out of control at pivotal parts of his life, he was adopted and everything and that manifests itself through anger and spite towards his family."

The show had its production shutdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, along with sister series WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Plot details for Loki have largely been under wraps, but it will feature the title character on a time-traveling journey and crossing paths with the Time Variance Authority, an organization dedicated to protecting the fabric of time and space.

The upcoming Disney+ series Loki is planned for release in 2021 and will feature six episodes. In addition to Tom Hiddleston, the series will also star Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
