The poster dropped just days after Loki director Kate Herron revealed why Majors was the perfect actor to play the role of He Who Remains, who is known in Marvel Comics as a variant of Kang the Conqueror. At the time, Herron recalled thinking she needed to cast an actor with a "presence that immediately grabs you, because not every actor can do that. Jonathan is one of the best actors out there."

"I was so excited that I got to be part of the conversation about the casting of his character with the studio and Peyton [Reed, Ant & The Wasp: Quantumania's director]," Herron continued. "It was a massive honor and very exciting."

While Majors' debut in Loki was reported ahead of the Season 1 finale, the actor adamantly denied a cameo, saying in mid-June, "I have no idea what you're talking about." Fans will recall, however, that the Kang variant was revealed to be the mastermind behind the TVA in Episode 6, "For All Time. Always." Majors will reprise the role in the upcoming MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is due out in February 2023.

As for how Majors prepared for his Marvel debut, the actor revealed that the clown training he completed as a student at the Yale School of Drama proved invaluable. "There's more smiling in that one performance than there has been in my other performances combined. It's just what it calls for," he explained. "I'm a classically trained clown. That's part of my training. I've been at it for a long time, and to be able to exercise that was a lot of fun."

Season 1 of Loki is now streaming on Disney+. Majors' next MCU appearance is expected to be in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
