Of all the characters the new Loki series seems geared to introduce, none are as enigmatic as Mobius M. Mobius. Played by Owen Wilson in the upcoming Disney+ series, this obscure character is going to receive a lot of attention from Marvel Cinematic Universe fans, casual and hardcore alike.

But who is Mobius M. Mobius? To answer that question, we'll turn to his history in the comics and how that could impact his role in Loki.

Who is Mobius M. Mobius?

Mobius M. Mobius is a member of the Time Variance Authority (TVA), an organization tasked with managing the multiverse and pruning universes that have become a danger to the greater whole of reality. Mobius's specific job is to manage the various timelines. This makes him neither good nor evil, but more just an office worker trying to do his job.

Mobius has only appeared in a handful of comics over the years, first as a prosecutor in Fantastic Four #353, attempting to hold the Fantastic Four accountable for time-related crimes, including altering the continuity. When the Fantastic Four escaped, Mobius feared being bumped down to a junior level and losing his cushy senior position. Thankfully, through a series of events that involved Kang the Conqueror, Mobius managed to be promoted even higher in the TVA.

Mobius would later gain notoriety for serving as a judge during the trial of She-Hulk, during She-Hulk Vol 2 #3-5. Said trial involved people being taken out of various points of time throughout her life to attend and witness the trial. This time-altering power was but a small aspect of Mobius M. Mobius's potential abilities, though only when acting through the Time Variance Authority.

How Will Mobius Act in Loki?

Mobius M. Mobius's role in Loki will probably be much the same as it is in the mainstream Marvel comics — he'll be an overworked guy in an office, trying to manage the multiverse. Given that Loki's retrieval of the Space Stone is a result of time travel shenanigans, it's likely that Mobius will try to contain Loki's influence without causing damage to the greater multiverse.

As the Ancient One mentions, without the Infinity Stones in the various timelines, fragmented alternate realities are created. It is likely that Avengers: Endgame's time heist resulted in a lot of messy paperwork for Mobius and the Time Variance Authority, even though Captain America traveled back to return the Stones the moment before they're lost. Capturing and maintaining control over Loki might be the TVA's first attempt at controlling the chaos.

However, Loki himself might take this as an opportunity to cause mischief on a far larger scale than ever before, having a chance to access all of space and time thanks to the TVA capturing him. More than likely, Mobius M. Mobius will just have to pursue Loki throughout reality, motivated not by the threat of interdimensional destruction, but by his fear of a demotion.
