The first episode of Loki left viewers with many questions, but one of the most pressing queries concerns why exactly Time Variance Authority employee Mobius M. Mobius was drinking the mid-1990s soda Josta. Now, Loki director Kate Herron has clarified why that beverage has appeared on the program.

"So, in the writer's room they were adding in stuff that basically doesn't exist anymore," Herron explained to The A.V. Club. "So that was a fun joke that we tried to continue. I'm not sure who picked Josta... I think it might have been Eric Martin."

"But yeah, it's really funny," Herron continued. "Because they exist outside of space and time and they have access to all this stuff. So, yeah, it's just little details like that, like you said, you watch it, and you're like 'Wait a minute, I know that drink!'"

Loki is the newest Marvel Studios program to air on Disney+ and so far it's proven to be a notable success for the streamer. Loki was reportedly viewed by 890,000 households in its initial episode, a higher viewership number than fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe Disney+ shows like WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant. New episodes air Wednesdays on Disney+.
