Ahead of the holiday crunch, fans were treated to several big events, each unveiling a new wave of trailers for upcoming projects in film and television. Starting with Brazil's Comic Con Experience this past weekend and concluding with this week's Disney Investor Day presentation, this was a huge week for content, with trailers dropping for such properties as Cyberpunk 2077, Batwoman and Loki.
Here are all the biggest and best trailers, teasers and promos from the second week of December 2020.
Batwoman
A big change is coming to the Arrowverse next month as a new Batwoman rises to defend Gotham City from Mad Alice and her Wonderland Gang. With Gotham reeling from the sudden disappearance of original Batwoman Kate Kane, Ryan Wilder steps up to the plate. The trailer teases her new costume and Batmobile while Kate's old allies, Luke Fox and Mary Hamilton, react to a different Caped Crusader making her debut.
Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Camrus Johnson, Dougray Scott and Nicole Kang. Season 2 premieres on Sunday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Clarice
Hannibal Lecter's most effective foil, Clarice Starling, is starring in her own Silence of the Lambs sequel series on CBS this February. Starring Rebecca Breeds as the fan-favorite FBI agent, the upcoming series takes place approximately one year after the 1991 film's events, with the teaser revealing a new wave of crimes that only Clarice can solve.
Clarice stars Rebecca Breeds, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler and Marnee Carpenter. The series premieres Feb. 11 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT on CBS and CBS All Access.
Cobra Kai
Cobra Kai ended on an explosive cliffhanger when an all-out war erupted between the two rival karate schools Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. Season 3 will help ring in 2021, with a new trailer showing Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence teaming up to resolve leading their students into violent feud while Johnny attempts to help his protege Miguel relearn how to walk. The show's action is poised to leave California, as Daniel will head to Okinawa and reunite with familiar faces from 1986's The Karate Kid Part II.
Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Peyton List and Martin Kove. Season 3 arrives on Netflix Jan. 8.
Creepshow
While Creepshow Season 2 may be delayed, the horror anthology series is returning with a bloody holiday special this coming week. Helmed by the revival's creator Greg Nicotero, the special episode has a man realize he has become a werewolf and find a support group for fellow animalistic shapeshifters. As the ensemble assembles for yuletide commiseration, they are attacked by an army of werewolf-hunting Santa Clauses leading to gruesome results.
Written and directed by Greg Nicotero, A Creepshow Holiday Special stars Anna Camp and Adam Pally. The special episode premieres Dec. 18 on Shudder.
Cyberpunk 2077
After multiple delays, the eagerly anticipated video game Cyberpunk 2077 has finally arrived on current-gen and next-gen consoles immersing players in the open-world dystopia of Night City. A launch trailer explored the neon-soaked setting, with Keanu Reeves' mysterious character Johnny Silverhand recovering the protagonist from a junkyard before taking them to the heart of the futuristic world.
Developed by CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia and PC.
Dr. Stone
The second season of the popular anime series Dr. Stone is set to roll out on Crunchyroll next month, bringing the manga's epic "Stone Wars" storyline to life. As Senku's Kingdom of Science and Tsukasa's Empire of Might are poised to engage each other in battle, several new characters are shown arriving in the far-future world, poised to tip the conflict in unexpected ways.
Season 2 of Dr. Stone will premiere January 14 on Crunchyroll.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
After Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe found itself in need of a new Captain America following an aged Steve Rogers' retirement. The legacy of the Star-Spangled Avenger will be explored in the Disney+ miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier when Sam Wilson steps up to provide the world with a much-needed symbol, teaming up with Bucky Barnes against Helmut Zemo and a new masked enemy on a globe-trotting adventure.
Directed by Kari Skogland, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier stars Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Emily VanCamp, Wyatt Russell, Noah Mills, Carl Lumbly and Daniel Brühl. The series debuts on Disney+ in March 19.
Fate: The Winx Saga
The popular Italian animated series Winx Club is reimagined as a live-action original series coming to Netflix next month in Fate: The Winx Saga. The series follows five fairies attending a private boarding school in the Otherworld where they learn to control their magical powers while navigating romance, personal drama and plenty of supernatural danger.
Executive produced by Brian Young and Winx Club creator Iginio Straffi, Fate: The Winx Saga stars Abigail Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen, Precious Mustapha, Eliot Salt, Elisha Applebaum, Sadie Soverall, Freddie Thorp, Danny Griffin, Theo Graham. Eve Best, Robert James-Collier, Josh Cowdery, Alex Macqueen and Eva Birthistle also star. The series premieres Jan. 22 on Netflix.
Legacies
The latest Vampire Diaries spinoff series, Legacies, returns for its third season next month, with main characters Hope Mikaelson still in a magical slumber while her boyfriend Landon Kirby hovers at death's door after being impaled by a golden arrow. As the couple's family and friends search desperately for a way to save both of them, a new supernatural threat menaces the Salvatore School for the Young & Gifted.
Legacies stars Danielle Rose Russell, Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Peyton Alex Smith, and Matt Davis. Season 3 premieres Thursday, Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Loki
One of the biggest plot threads left dangling at the end of Avengers: Endgame was the whereabouts of Loki, last seen using the Tesseract to transport himself to parts unknown across the cosmos. A first look at the upcoming Disney+ series Loki shows the God of Mischief answering for his crimes at the hands of the Time Variance Authority. As Loki carouses around different timelines, the nefarious Roxxon Corporation will also play a role.
Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series arrives on Disney+ in May.
Morbius
As principal photography continues on Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film, the web-slinger's vampire antihero Morbius is slated to rise in theaters in his own film in March. Star Jared Leto introduced the Japanese trailer for the Sony comic book movie, teasing it as part of "an expanding universe" before the trailer showcased Michael Morbius struggling with his terminal blood condition before transforming into a living vampire.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson and Jared Harris. The film arrives in theaters March 19.
Riverdale
Riverdale is looking to escalate its murder and mayhem when it returns for its fifth season next month, with a group of serial killers recording their lethal activities and sharing the snuff films to terrorize the small town. As Archie Andrews and his friends search for the killers, the Season 5 trailer hints at romantic drama to unfold as the characters celebrate their senior prom.
Riverdale stars K.J. Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Casey Cott, Mark Consuelos, Charles Melton, Vanessa Morgan, Mädchen Amick and Erinn Westbrook. The series returns for Season 5 Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Servant
The Apple TV+ original series Servant has released an unsettling trailer for its second season as the sinister babysitter Leanne Grayson introduces herself while hinting at potential supernatural twists to come for the Turner family as Jericho, the reborn doll taken in by the couple after the tragic death of their son, begins to come to light.
Created by Tony Basgallop and directed and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Servant stars Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free and Rupert Grint. The first of Season 2's 10 episodes will premiere on Jan. 15, followed by new episodes every Friday. Viewers interested in catching up on the series can stream Season 1 now on Apple TV+.
Transformers: War for Cybertron - Earthrise
Things are looking exceedingly grim for Optimus Prime and the Autobots in Earthrise, the second installment of Rooster Teeth Studios' War for Cybertron trilogy of Transformers animated films for Netflix. A new trailer has the Autobots captured by a group of Transformer bounty hunters while their allies continue to battle against the Decepticons on Cybertron. And with Galvatron and Megatron making an alliance and Unicron joining the fray, things are poised to go from bad to worse.
Developed by Rooster Teeth Studios, Transformers: War for Cybertron - Earthrise features the voice talents of Jake Foushee, Jason Marnocha, Linsay Rousseau, Joe Zieja, Frank Todaro, Rafael Goldstein, Keith Silverstein, Todd Haberkorn, Edward Bosco, Bill Rogers, Sophia Isabella, Brook Chalmers, Shawn Hawkins, Kaiser Johnson, Miles Luna and Mark Whitten. The series debuts Dec. 30 on Netflix.
WandaVision
The Scarlet Witch and Vision are reunited in a magical mystery tour evoking classic sitcoms in Marvel Studios' debut Disney+ series WandaVision. A new trailer shows Wanda Maximoff in a world reminiscent of I Love Lucy using her chaos magic to summon Vision back from the grave. As the couple picturesque home life quickly begins to hint at dark secrets, S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Jimmy Woo and Jane Foster's intern Darcy Lewis are seen being drawn into the televised nightmare.
Written by Jac Schaeffer and directed by Matt Shakman, WandaVision stars Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Randall Park, Kat Dennings, Teyonah Parris and Kathryn Hahn. The series premieres Jan. 15 on Disney+.
What If?
As part of Disney Investors Day, the first trailer for Marvel Studios' Disney+ animated series What If...? was unveiled, teasing an entire multiverse filled with familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe taking on radically different roles. As Uatu the Watcher guides audiences through alternate realities, everything from Peggy Carter stepping up as Captain Britain to Chadwick Boseman's final performance as a cosmic T'Challa is shown.
Marvel Studios' first animated series, What If...?, will take audiences through the Multiverse to show off alternative versions of the MCU's colorful cast of characters. The first season will consist of 10 episodes and will premiere on Disney+ Summer 2021.
Wonder Woman 1984
With Wonder Woman 1984 heading to theaters and HBO Max in time for Christmas, a new promo was unveiled at Brazil's Comic Con Experience (CCXP). In the footage, the Amazonian hero faces off against Cheetah and reunites her with her lost love Steve Trevor. From facing off against guards in the White House to attacking a convoy, Diana Prince hasn't lost a step in the '80s.
Directed and co-written by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal and Natasha Rothwell. The film arrives in theaters and HBO Max on Dec. 25, while debuting theatrically in international markets starting on Dec. 16.
