The Marvel Cinematic Universe's own Thor, Chris Hemsworth, supplied his voice for the role of "Frog Thor" in the latest episode of Disney+'s Loki series.

Director Kate Herron confirmed the casting choice in a discussion on the ForAllNerds podcast, a clip from which was posted on Instagram. Speaking of how pleased she was with the contributions of the creative team to add little touches of fun and flair to the fifth episode of the show, Herron said, "And Throg, obviously -- getting him in. And we recorded Chris Hemsworth for that by the way... That's, like, a whole new recording. Not recycled."

The introduction of Thor's amphibious incarnation was originally intended for the premier episode of the series, but his scene did not make the final cut. The title of Episode 5, "Journey into Mystery," comes from the 1962 comic in which Thor first appears. In the episode, "Throg" is trapped underground in a sealed jar as Loki approaches the hideout of his alternate selves. "Comic fans will notice the Frog of Thunder in that jar," writer Eric Martin remarked. "We actually shot a scene for the Time Theater in Ep 1 of Loki getting pummeled by Frog Thor, but had to cut it to keep things moving."

Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
