Loki has just wrapped up its first season. It was successful in bringing back one of the MCU's most popular characters, adding to his mystique and leaving him in a completely different place than he was when the show began. The show's ending set up a lot of things for the future of the MCU, including an all-new threat. The show delivered in more ways than anyone anticipated.

However, like any MCU product, there are things in the show that annoyed even the most dedicated fans of the show and the MCU, with some being much more egregious than others.

10 Not Enough Alligator Loki

The Loki Variants made a big splash in Loki and none made a bigger splash than Alligator Loki. Sure, he was just an alligator, but the Internet reacted to him in ways that no one could have imagined. People love animals but alligators aren't exactly cute or cuddly. Alligator Loki, though, struck a chord with fans.

So, when fans got nothing more about this wonderful new variant of Loki, a lot of them were quite annoyed by that. Sure, there's a Funko Pop coming out and fanfic, but people want some official sources for Alligator Loki information.

9 The Show Killed Classic Loki

Richard E. Grant as Classic Loki

Another Loki Variant that made a huge splash was Classic Loki. While there was certainly an element of mockery to the character—the comic accurate costume was made to look ridiculous on purpose, keeping with the MCU's propensity to degrade the work of Jack Kirby—Richard E. Grant's portrayal of Classic Loki was perfect. In fact, fans want way more of the character.

This hope was seemingly dashed by his death, which was an amazing scene but also cut off hopes of seeing the character. Now, with the ending of the season, there's a chance he may return but the fact he was killed in the first place wasn't great.

8 The Other Loki Variants Weren't Great

Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, and President Loki were also introduced as Loki Variants and it honestly felt like they were mostly there just to tick boxes from comic storylines. Kid Loki has one good line, but even that was delivered in a way that messed up the whole thing, Boastful Loki had potential but never reached it, and President Loki was pretty much just there because he'd been on the covers of some books.

The MCU is at its worst when it pays lip service to the comics without using the elements in any kind of intelligent way and this was just one example of Loki doing that. It wouldn't be the last either.

7 Ravonna Renslayer Didn't Do Anything Interesting

Ravonna's history in the comics was as Kang's muse and became a very interesting character over the years. When it was revealed that she would be a part of Loki, comic fans were pretty excited. However, what they got was a stereotypical stumbling block of a villain, a barely one-dimensional character.

The MCU does this more often than its most ardent fans like to admit and while they are definitely setting some things up with the character for the future, that doesn't make her portrayal in the present any better. There were a lot of interesting things that could be done with the character but the show did the opposite of all of them.

6 The Loki-Sylvie Ship Kind Of Skeeved Out A Lot Of Fans

From the moment the show revealed a female Loki, Tumblr and its shippers went into overdrive. While there are pros and cons to the relationship, what shippers think is appealing isn't always appealing to more run-of-the-mill fans—see the many ships of the Winchester brothers from Supernatural—and the Loki-Sylvie ship tread similar territory.

Sure, they aren't related, so it isn't that kind of taboo, but it still seems pretty weird because they are technically the exact same person. It's just a very weird thing that turned a lot of fans off, especially since the two characters kissed in the finale.

5 Sylvie Was A Better Character Than Loki & Deserved Way More Screen Time

Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie in Loki Episode 4

Everyone loves Loki. He's appeared in more MCU movies than most of the Avengers and fans have clamored for his return since Avengers: Infinity War. However, he was quickly overshadowed by Sylvie. Everything about the character was more interesting than Loki and seeing her have to play second fiddle to Loki annoyed a lot of fans.

Sylvie proved to be much different than the Lady Loki version of the character from the comics and that was a great thing. She made such a huge splash and while the show spent a lot of time with her, for a lot of fans, it just wasn't enough.

4 The Void & The Kang Revelations Open Up A Lot Of Questions

Loki and Sylvie Looking Upon The Sacred Timeline

So, Kang started the TVA to keep himself from killing himself and embroiling the Multiverse in war. He did this after the Multiversal War was over but here's the thing: wouldn't more Kangs pop up at some point and get pruned? So, that means they would be in the Void. So, where were they?

If they were in the Void, why hadn't they figured out a way to suborn Alioth? If one Kang could figure out a way to get it to his bidding, why couldn't another? The writers must have thought the whole thing with the Void was clever but it actually opens up a lot of questions that break the whole show and this is just one of them.

3 If Classic Loki Is So Powerful, Why Didn't He Figure Out A Way To Deal With Alioth?

classic loki

Back to Classic Loki. It was revealed that his powers were much greater than Loki and Sylvie's. He was also much smarter and wiser than them, so the question comes in why he put up with any of it. Classic Loki had the power to create amazing illusions and was more powerful than any of the other Lokis. Why was he so resigned to his fate in the Void?

As smart and powerful as he was, there's no reason why he couldn't have figured out a way to deal with Alioth, and barring that, why was he subservient to other Lokis? The way they set him up and revealed things about him were two very different things and weren't really compatible.

2 Changing Kang's Thing To Multiversal Instead Of Temporal Shows How Little The MCU Respects Its Fans' Intelligence

A statue of Kang from the Loki Season 1 finale.

In the comics, Kang can be confusing but it can actually be explained simply: Kang found Doom's time machine when he was young and started using it. The various versions of him are from different points in his personal timeline—Iron Lad as a teen, Rama-Tut and Scarlet Centurion from when he was slightly older, Kang at some point during middle age, and Immortus from when he was much older.

The MCU went with hand waving all of that away by using the Multiverse to explain it. It's also a much easier explanation than the time travel one, as time travel can get confusing. However, time travel has been a part of pop culture for a long time and the fact the MCU felt the need to change this makes it look like they think MCU fans aren't smart enough to understand more complicated time travel stuff.

1 The Portrayal Of Kang Brings Back Bad Memories Of The MCU Villains Problem

Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains on Loki

The MCU has often had a villain problem. While sometimes changing things from the comics can be beneficial, the MCU has botched classic Marvel villains so often that it was honestly surprising that Thanos turned out as well as he did. So, when Kang came out all witty and jokey, it brought back bad memories of botches like Ultron.

While there are no guarantees other versions of Kang will act this way, if it's popular, there's a good chance this will be the portrayal of the character, which isn't a good thing. It takes a great villain and makes him into yet another jokey, one-dimensional MCU villain.
