WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Loki Episode 5, "Journey Into Mystery," now streaming on Disney+.

Kate Herron, director of Loki, gave fans a unique glimpse behind the scenes at the character that stole the show in the latest episode: Alligator Loki.

"Happy Episode Five 'Journey into Mystery' @LokiOfficial day!" Herron tweeted. "Here is one the biggest divas and the most demanding actor I’ve ever had to work with, taking a break from his reign of terror to relax in his chair." The photo in the tweet showed a large blue stuffed alligator, sporting googly eyes and horns just like the ones worn by the character (and several other Loki variants) in the show. The tweet also used hashtags showing off Alligator Loki's new icon along with the more familiar Loki's icon.

Herron had previously explained how a prop was used to film Alligator Loki's scenes before the realistic animal was added with CGI, so that the actors could play off of it. "You put [the stuffed alligator] in there, and the actors can interact with it and get a sense of how heavy or how large the alligator would be." She also described the stuffed animal saying that it had "googly eyes" stuck on, and that "It was like a Muppet character on set."

Apparently understanding how curious that mental image would make fans, Herron posted the photo of the Alligator Loki prop on July 7, the day that Episode 5 was released.

There are still quite a few mysteries surrounding the reptilian character, including whether or not he really is a Loki variant. However, he was quick to win the hearts of the audience, taking part in plenty of the episode's action, accompanying the makeshift team and even biting off the hand of the rival variant President Loki.

Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E. Grant and Jack Veal. New episodes premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
