You all voted, now here, as part of our celebration of Lois Lane and Superman's 80th Anniversary, are the results of what you chose as the 40 Greatest Lois Lane Stories!

Enjoy!

30. "Pantheon" (Superman: The Man of Steel #126-127)

Mark Schultz, Yvel Guichet, Kevin Sharpe, Walden Wong and Dexter Vines told this touching story that took place in the wake of Our Worlds at War, where Lois Lane's father, General Sam Lane, died (don't worry, he turned out to be alive later...and super-evil). Lois is sort of struggling with the whole fact that here she is, the wife of SUPERMAN, and yet that could not even save her father's life. If the wife of Superman can't even keep her father alive, what hopes do others have?

Anyhow, as it turned out, a small group of forgotten gods showed up and wanted to add Superman to their pantheon of gods. However, instead, it was Lois Lane who was transformed into a goddess, the Goddess of Integrity!

In her new guise, she travels to her father's grave and deals with her many different emotions about his death. She is confronted there by Wonder Woman, who also lost a parent during the Our Worlds at War conflict.

In the end, Lois renounces her godhood just as Superman is dealing with the pantheon...

Touching stuff.

29. "The Devil's Bride" (Sueprman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #102-103)

In a rare two-part storyline in Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane, Lois finds herself in love with a mysterious man who seemingly reveals himself to be a devil and that Lois has seemingly sold her soul for a story! Robert Kanigher, Curt Swan and Mike Esposito get even darker when Superman shows up and he seems to have accidentally killed Lois!!

The next issue opens with a bleak bit where Superman's mind can't handle the torture of having murdered the woman that he loves.

While Superman and Lana mourn Lois, she comes back to life, but is she now a DEMON?!?

As it turns out, nope, just an alien trying to get her to marry him...

She renounces him and returns to Earth.

28. "The Road Least Traveled" (Superman #704)

In this breather issue in the "Grounded" storyline (where Superman decided to walk across America to feel closer to humanity after living on New Krypton for a year, with Lois Lane going along to cover the story for the Daily Planet) by G. Willow Wilson, Leandro Oliveira and Walden Wong, Lois Lane stops off at the city where she went to college back in the day. She runs into some students form her old sorority and also meets an old boyfriend, who is now married with a kid. She has dinner at their home and Lois reflects on whether she has become a bad feminist, as she is only thought of in relation to her connection to Superman and not the fact that she is an acclaimed journalist on her own. She asks her ex boyfriend's wife if she knew that Lois had been nominated for a Pulitzer just the previous year and she admitted that she did not, because that's not why Lois is famous. However, she then sees the couple fighting over some silly nonsense and she realized that there is really no "perfect" situation.

So she walks off and luckily, Superman missed her and finds her (breaking his "no flying" rule) and they have a heart to heart about her role in his life....

Nice work by Wilson.

27. "The Romance of Superbaby and Baby Lois!" (Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #42)

One of the great injustices in this world is that we don't know who wrote "The Romance of Superbaby and Baby Lois," one of the all-time greatest comic book stories ever written. it was drawn by the great Kurt Schaffenberger, but the writer's name has been lost to history.

Anyhow, the basic set-up is that Lois Lane has finally gotten a photo of Superman changing into his secret identity. She plans on developing it herself but leaving it at that, as she doesn't want the world to know the secret. However, she is then in a car accident and her head gets knocked, which changes her entire personality. Now she is evil and wants to force Superman to marry her in exchange for her not developing the photo. Superman thinks he has tricked her by then exposing her to a spray that de-ages you, but, well, evil Lois is also super devious...

They go back and forth, with him trying to get out of the wedding and Lois coming up with counters to his plans, while they are also continually aging backwards! Lois actually gets him down the aisle, but she has become an infant and so cannot speak anymore. When she recovers, she comes to her senses and takes some drugs to get her old personality back. Oddly enough, she also destroys the photo, which is weird, because taking the photo really wasn't "crazy," ya know?

This one takes the cake for the classic sort of "Lois tries to trick Superman into marrying her" stories.

26. "True Love" (Action Comics #600)

This one is not really given an official title in the comic, but people have tended to call it "True Love," as it is John Byrne, Roger Stern, Jerry Ordway and Kurt Schaffenberger (with one of his last Lois Lane stories ever) telling the story of Lois Lane coming to terms with the fact that Superman and Wonder Woman might be an item...

She then has to come to terms with her feelings that maybe she might never end up with Superman, and, really, does she WANT to be seen as "Superman's Girl Friend," even?
