Writer-producer Simon Kinberg, known for blockbusters like "X-Men: Days of Future Past," has joined the remake of the the cult classic 1976 sci-fi movie "Logan's Run."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kinberg has been hired to pen the story for the remake and will join Joel Silver as producer. Another writer will likely be hired down the line to write the script. Kinbreg is also a producer on "X-Men: Apocalypse," "Fantastic Four" and "Deadpool," a writer-producer for one of the "Star Wars" anthology films and an executive producer on the "Star Wars Rebels" TV series.

Ryan Gosling was originally set to star as Logan in the new adaptation of the 1967 novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson about a dystopian society where people are condemned to execution upon reaching a certain age. Those who attempt to escape their fate are deemed Runners and are hunted down by executioners known as the Sandmen. As a Sandman, Logan himself becomes a man on the run when he joins with an underground group of Runners.
