Caliban has returned in a new photo from “Logan,” the third and final installment in Fox’s “Wolverine” trilogy. The photo, which surfaced on ComicBookMovie.com, shows the pale-skinned mutant bundled up in the same scarf and hat from the trailer.
Stephen Merchant will appear as Caliban, though he was originally played by Tómas Lemarquis in this year’s “X-Men: Apocalypse.” In the comics, Caliban — named after the grotesque character who appears in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” — boasts the ability to locate mutants and frequently used his powers for Callisto, the mutant leader of the Morlocks. The Morlocks live underground in a series of tunnels because of their freakish appearances.
Set years after the epilogue of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Logan” centers on the efforts of Wolverine and Charles Xavier to protect a young girl named Laura, who has been confirmed as the Marvel Comics character X-23.
Opening March 3, 2017, “Logan” also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
