Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have been playing Wolverine and Charles Xavier respectively since the original X-Men movie debuted back in 2000. Over the course of 17 years, Stewart has appeared in seven films in the franchise, while Jackman has been in nine. Logan, which came out in March, marked the end of their tenures in the iconic roles, so it's understandable that they might have gotten a bit emotional while watching the movie. However, it seems one scene had a strong effect on both of them. Jackman recently revealed at a Q&A session that he and Stewart wept during the film's final shot -- when Laura (Dafne Keen) moves the cross on Logan's grave so it makes an X.

"When I read it, I thought 'that's beautiful.' It seemed very poetic on the page. And when I saw it, I cried. I sat next to Patrick Stewart. We saw it for the first time, and both of us wept," The Hollywood Reporter quoted Jackman as saying.

The actor also gave credit to director James Mangold credit for coming up with the idea. "There's something so patient and courageous in a filmmaker to allow everything to culminate in that one moment."

Stewart previously hinted at this interaction back in March when he talked about watching the film with Jackman in Berlin. "...at one point [Hugh] reached out, and he took my hand in those last few minutes, and I saw him go [mimes wiping a tear from his eye] like this," he said. "And then I realized I had just done the same thing."

Though Stewart has indicated he'd be willing to play Charles Xavier on the FX series Legion, which follows his son David Haller, or in Deadpool, he's also asserted that Logan will be his last film in the role. While there's a chance he might return in the future, he isn't currently scheduled to play the part again. However, there's no ambiguity about whether or not Jackman will return to the role as he has continually said that Logan is his final appearance as the character -- unless Fox and Marvel ever come to terms for an Avengers/X-Men crossover, that is.
