Just because "Logan" will be Hugh Jackman's last ride as Wolverine doesn't mean that the clawed mutant's "X-Men" legacy is over. The upcoming "Wolverine" film will introduce X-23, a young girl with powers similar to Logan's -- right down to the claws. Asked what other comic book projects he'd like to pursue, director James Mangold told We Got It Covered that he'd be interested in continuing X-23's story.

"I think Dafne [Keen] is incredible in the film and I would love to see another film about that character and that’s certainly something I’d be involved in," he shared. "For me, that was one of the big additions I brought to the table, this decision to try to make the film about family and to try to insert Laura and the pressures that would put and the idea about Charles ailing."

All considering, that's far from a confirmation that Fox will pursue an X-23 film. Nevertheless, it looks like Mangold would be interested in boarding the project if an X-23 spinoff ever gets off the ground.

Set years after the epilogue of “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Logan” centers on the efforts of Wolverine and Charles Xavier to protect a young girl named Laura, who has been confirmed as the Marvel Comics character X-23.

Opening March 3, 2017, “Logan” also stars Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant and Dafne Keen.
