WARNING: The following article contains major spoilers for Locke & Key Season 1, streaming now on Netflix.

Locke & Key introduces a dozen magical keys in its first season, each as unique and powerful as the next. Almost all of the keys change hands over the course of the show's 10 episodes and, unfortunately, not all of them end up back with the Locke family. When Sam attacks the Lockes at Keyhouse in Episode 7 many of the keys begin moving around very quickly. By the final episode, it's more than a little unclear who has taken possession of each key.

Here's where each of the keys introduced in Season 1 came from, where they went and, ultimately, where they ended up.

The Anywhere Key

The Anywhere Key is first discovered by Bode shortly after he meets Dodge in the well. The key is hidden in a bracelet given to Kinsey by her father Rendell to keep safe. Bode uses the key to visit the ice cream parlor before handing it over to Dodge, who maintains control of it for almost the entire season.

Tyler briefly takes ownership of the Anywhere Key in Episode 7 after Dodge leaves it unattended in the backseat during their tryst. Tyler, realizing immediately who Dodge is, uses the key to return home, where he finds Sam holding the Locke family hostage. Tyler attacks Sam but loses the fight when Sam burns him with the Matchstick Key. Sam binds Tyler and takes possession of the key, but not for long, as Dodge finally makes her way to Keyhouse to kill Sam and take the keys he has collected.

Dodge keeps the key for the rest of the season, using it to effectively be different people in multiple places at once in order to carry out her master plan.

The Mirror Key

Invented for the Netflix series, the Mirror Key is first found by Bode in the garbage disposal at Keyhouse. Dodge tricks Bode into thinking the key will let him see his dad again, when in fact the key's purpose is to trap its user inside a "prison of the self" on the other side of a mirror. After the Locke children rescue Nina from the mirror prison the key isn't used again.

When Sam invades Keyhouse in Episode 7 he takes all of Bode and Kinsey's keys (except the Head Key, which Kinsey hides), the Mirror Key being among them. When Dodge eventually shows up at Key House to get the Mind Key from Sam, he hesitates to hand it over. Dodge stabs Sam and takes the Head Key, Anywhere Key, Music Box Key, Mirror Key and Plant Key from him.

Later at Ellie's house, Rufus reveals to Ellie that he saw Dodge hide several keys, including the Mirror Key, in a plastic baggy. While we never see these keys again, it's safe to assume Dodge still has possession of them when the season ends.

The Head Key

The Head Key is one of the most pivotal keys in the series and the impetus for Sam's assault on Keyhouse in Episode 7. Bode first discovers the key in a vacuum and each of the Locke children take turns using it during the first half of the season. When Sam shows up the key passes from Kinsey to Tyler to Sam and eventually to Dodge who leaves with it, as well as the four other keys Sam has collected from the Lockes.

After using that key to learn the hiding place of the Omega Key, Dodge stores the Head Key in Ellie's house in a plastic bag. Rufus, who has seen Dodge hide the keys, reveals them to Ellie who takes it to Key House to finally tell the Locke children about the origin of Dodge. After exploring Ellie's memories, the Head Key drops to the floor and is recovered by Rufus.

Rufus eventually gives the key back to Bode in the final episode as he is about to be driven away in an ambulance. The key can later be seen safely stored in Kinsey's music box.

The Ghost Key

Bode finds the Ghost Key in a painting and uses it twice. The first time he uses it he explores the area surrounding Keyhouse and meets the ghost of his great-great-grandfather Chamberlain Locke in the graveyard. Bode uses the Ghost Key again when Sam shows up, and, after discovering that he is upstairs holding Nina at gunpoint, Bode leaves the key in its lock.

Later when the police arrive, Sam tries to escape out of the Ghost Door, not realizing he will be turned into a ghost. The police find Sam's dead body and shut the door, trapping him in a ghostly form. We see the Ghost Key in Kinsey's music box at the end of Episode 10.

The Echo Key

We first see Ellie use the Echo Key to enter the Wellhouse while Bode is in ghost form during Episode 3. While we see her use it again in Episode 9 during a flashback, we don't see the Echo Key again in the present. The show seems to make a point of showing Ellie set the key down on the well in Episode 3, so it seems likely that she left it in the Wellhouse and that that is where it remains at the end of the season.

The Matchstick Key

The Matchstick Key is the very first key we're introduced to. Mark Cho jams it into his chest to commit suicide, burning down his house in the process. After escaping the Wellhouse with the Anywhere Key, Dodge goes to Mark's house and finds the key in the possession of a local boy. Dodge murders the kid by pushing him in front of a train and takes the key.

Dodge then visits Sam in jail and gives him the Matchstick Key. Sam uses the key to escape and brings it with him to Keyhouse. While fighting with Kinsey's fear monster in the woods, Sam loses the key. Later, Bode finds the key and gives it to Tyler. At the end of the last episode, the key can be seen in Kinsey's music box alongside the Omega, Ghost and Head Key.

The Music Box Key

Tyler and Kinsey find the Music Box Key inside a piano during Episode 5. Kinsey keeps the key until Sam shows up at Keyhouse in Episode 7 and takes it from her. Dodge later takes the key from Sam when she stabs him. The Music Box Key is one of the four keys kept in the plastic bag at Ellie's house.

Interestingly, Kinsey is keeping her keys in the music box at the end of Episode 10 despite not possessing the Music Box Key anymore. Though the fate of the plastic bag of keys is uncertain, as we don't see the Music Box Key in the music box or its lock, it's safe to assume Dodge still has it.

The Plant Key

Kinsey finds the Plant Key in an urn in the graveyard and uses it to recover Duncan's memories there. The Plant Key is one of the four plastic bag keys that Dodge took from Sam before killing him. Its fate isn't certain, but it seems to be in Dodge's possession by the series' end.

The Mending Key

The Mending Key is discovered by Bode in a sowing machine. Bode is the first person to connect the Mending Key with the Mending Cabinet, but Nina is actually the person that figures out how to use it. The Mending Key remains in the Mending Cabinet at the end of the season.

The Omega Key

Tyler finds the Omega Key in Rendell's ashes after Nina smashes his urn. Tyler keeps the key and uses it to open the Black Door in the Drowning Cave and lock Ellie (disguised as Dodge by way of the Identity Key) behind it. The Omega Key can be seen in Kinsey's music box at the end of Episode 10.

The Crown of Shadows

The Crown of Shadows is actually two pieces. Ellie first finds the Crown itself hidden in the basement of Keyhouse and hands it over to Dodge. The actual key is found by Bode on a keyring containing many non-magical keys for Keyhouse. Bode gives the key to Ellie who then takes it home with her only to find Dodge waiting for her. Dodge takes the key from Ellie and combines it with the Crown. After assaulting Keyhouse with the shadow army and pulling a dastardly switcheroo, Dodge escapes with the crown.

The Final Score: Who Is Holding The Keys

We know for certain that Kinsey has the Omega Key, Ghost Key, Head Key and Matchstick Key because we see all of them in her music box at the end of Episode 10. Further, it's all but certain the Mending Key is still in the Mending Cabinet. That means five keys are secured for the Locke family.

Dodge definitely has the Crown of Shadows, the Anywhere Key and the Identity Key, and it's almost certain she also has the three plastic bag keys: the Plant Key, Mirror Key and Music Box Key. That makes a total of six keys for Dodge.

The location of the Echo Key is questionable, though it's likely sitting safely in the Wellhouse right now. While Dodge has a collection of very powerful keys at her disposal, there are still a number of keys left to discover next season, such as the Hercules Key and the Giant Key. The Locke kids may be starting the next season at a disadvantage, but with any luck, the keys will make their way back to where they belong.

Locke & Key stars Darby Stanchfield (Scandal) as Nina Locke, Jackson Robert Scott (IT) as Bode Locke, Connor Jessup (American Crime) as Tyler Locke, Emilia Jones (Horrible Histories) as Kinsey Locke, Bill Heck (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs) as Rendell Locke, Laysla De Oliveira as Dodge, Thomas Mitchell Barnet as Sam Lesser, Griffin Gluck (American Vandal) as Gabe, and Coby Bird as Rufus Whedon. The series is now streaming on Netflix.
