Locke & Key follows the macabre adventures of the three Locke siblings after they move to the family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts following the murder of their father Rendell Locke. There, they discover a series of magical keys and are pursued by a demonic presence. Debuting in 2008 from IDW Publishing, the story was told over six story arcs and several one-shot issues. The series won an Eisner Award and earned several other distinctions.

A Locke & Key pilot was previously developed in 2011 for Fox, but the network ultimately passed on the show. Reception of the episode was overall positive, but the show struggled to find a new home until earlier this year when Hulu announced they were moving forward with an adaptation.

The hour-long pilot, which also stars The Conjuring 2's Frances O'Connor, will be co-written by Hill and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain), with the latter also handling showrunning duties. The series will be produced by IDW Entertainment alongside Cuse, Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Lindsey Springer.
