When Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s Locke & Key finally makes the jump from comics to the small screen, the series will also serve as an It reunion of sorts. According to Deadline, It director Andy Muschietti — who was brought in to helm the project after Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson departed the project — has recruited Megan Charpentier as one of the Locke children.
Charpentier is set to play Kinsey Locke, sister of Bode Locke, who will be portrayed by Jackson Robert Scott in the series. Scott also stars in It as Georgie, opposite Charpentier’s Gretta. Charpentier’s past credits include Mama, Red Riding Hood, Resident Evil: Retribution, Jennifer’s Body, Supernatural and more.
Locke & Key follows the macabre adventures of the three Locke siblings after they move to the family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts following the murder of their father Rendell Locke. There, they discover a series of magical keys and are pursued by a demonic presence. Debuting in 2008 from IDW Publishing, the story was told over six story arcs and several one-shot issues. The series won an Eisner Award and earned several other distinctions.
A Locke & Key pilot was previously developed in 2011 for Fox, but the network ultimately passed on the show. Reception of the episode was overall positive, but the show struggled to find a new home until earlier this year when Hulu announced they were moving forward with an adaptation.
The hour-long pilot, which also stars The Conjuring 2‘s Frances O’Connor, will be co-written by Hill and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel, The Strain), with the latter also handling showrunning duties. The series will be produced by IDW Entertainment alongside Cuse, Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti and Lindsey Springer.
