Although it struggled to get its TV series on air, the “Locke & Key” film adaptation continues to see development. The Hollywood Reporter states that “Henry Poole is Here” screenwriter Albert Torres has been hired by Universal to write the script for the upcoming “Locke & Key” film. It’s likely that Torres is the writer that producer Alex Kurtzman referred to in September 2013 as having a “brilliant way to take the best of the first couple graphic novels and play out a complete first movie story with a lot of promise of future movies.” In addition to “Henry Poole is Here,” Torres has done work on the upcoming “Ben 10” project and a draft of the Warner Bros. “Akira” reboot.
After a lengthy development phase in television and both FOX and MTV passing on the pilot, Universal optioned the property for film in June 2013. The series is planned as a trilogy of films to adapt the entire saga of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s “Locke & Key,” produced by Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Bobby Cohen and IDW’s Ted Adams.
