Locke & Key co-creator/writer Joe Hill says Hell & Gone, the upcoming crossover with DC Comics' Sandman Universe, is likely to be the comic's first and last crossover.

"It's probably our last crossover, too, because it's very hard to imagine justifying a crossover where, say, Tyler Locke meets Howard the Duck," Hill said while discussing Hell & Gone at New York Comic Con. To date, every single issue of IDW Publishing's Locke & Key has been written by Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez, a trend that continues with Hell & Gone -- which is distancing itself from other stories.

First announced by IDW back in February, Hell & Gone is currently scheduled to launch in December with Issue #0, which recaps key storylines and characters from both Locke & Key and The Sandman. The crossover then kicks off proper in February's Hell & Gone #1, Which follows Mary Lock on a quest to rescue her deceased brother, John "Jack" Locke, from Hell, a quest that will "require her to outsmart Roderick Burgess (the most evil man in England), puzzle her way through the House of Mystery and risk the walking nightmare known as The Corinthian in a disintegrating Kingdom of Dreams!"

Written by Joe Hill and illustrated by Gabriel Rodriguez, Locke & Key/Sandman: Hell & Gone #0 is slated to go on sale Dec. 9 from IDW Publishing and DC Comics, followed by Issue #1 on Feb. 10, 2021.
