Slade Wilson, a.k.a. Deathstroke the Terminator, is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Lobo, the last Czarnian, is one of the most dangerous men in the entire universe. What does a human from Earth and a motorcycle riding alien have in common?

Both work as ruthless mercenaries taking whatever job pays enough. Both have proven capable of defeating the Justice League single-handedly, and are the last individuals anyone would ever want to come after them. They're the best there is at what they do, but between the two of them, who stands as the supreme mercenary?

Deathstroke and Lobo's Origins

Slade Wilson was only a teenager when he enlisted in the Army. In his time serving as a soldier he presented an astounding aptitude for mastering combat styles and guerilla warfare tactics. Slade was chosen for a top secret experiment that allowed him to use 90% of his total brain capacity; this gave him a multitude of powers including heightened senses, a healing factor, and enhanced physical attributes. Taking the name Deathstroke, Slade quickly became the world’s foremost assassin.

Lobo was born on the planet Czarnia, a veritable paradise of unending peace. This ended the moment the most merciless and sadistic of their number was born. Lobo killed every other Czarnian on his planet simply because he wanted to be unique. Taking his love for violence to the stars, the self-proclaimed "Main Man" became a full-time bounty hunter and mercenary. His name translates from Khundian into "one who devours your entrails and thoroughly enjoys it" for a reason.

Deathstroke and Lobo's Attributes

Deathstroke is the very definition of peak human performance. Even without the powers granted to him through experimentation, Slade Wilson is a world-class martial artist, marksman, and acrobat as well as a military trained tactician. The powers he gained augment his natural skills to such a degree that he is considered one of the world’s deadliest metahumans. Wilson's weapons of choice are his twin swords and a variety of firearms.

Lobo possesses enough strength to fight the likes of Superman, Martian Manhunter, and Shazam. His superhuman stamina, endurance, speed, and strength make him one of the most lethal combatants in the universe. Like Deathstroke, Lobo also has a regenerative ability; unlike Deathstroke, however, the Main Man also has the ability to make clones of himself out of any piece of his body that becomes separated from him. He also possesses a sense of smell so advanced he is able to track bounties through entire solar systems. Lobo wields a giant chained hook and an assortment of firearms and grenades.

Deathstroke Vs. Lobo: Which DC Mercenary is the Best?

Lobo smoking a cigar while standing in space

For all of Deathstroke's innate skills as a soldier, and even with all of the physical enhancements he received, there's simply no contest between him and Lobo. Whatever Wilson can do, the Main Man can do better. The very fact that the Czarnian tracks his bounties through the depths of space puts him on an entirely different playing field than Deathstroke. Wilson is confined to a single planet; even his deadliest contracts pale in comparison to Lobo's hunts.

To be fair, though, in terms of professionalism, Deathstroke has an edge over the alien. For the Main Man, the ends have always justified the means, and there's no limit to the blood, bullets, and carnage Lobo will inflict to get the job done. Both mercenaries stop at nothing to see their contracts filled, but the Last Czarnian has literally been to Heaven and Hell (and subsequently kicked out of both) in order to kill an enemy. Deathstroke is good, but he's not The Main Man.
