The revival of Lizzie McGuire that was in the works to premiere on Disney+ has been effectively canned by the company.

The show was meant to star Hilary Duff reprising her role as Lizzie McGuire, as she navigates her life as a thirty-year-old interior decorator in New York City. Production on the series reboot began in November 2019, but was quickly placed on hold in January of this year when Terri Minsky, showrunner and creator of the original show, departed the project due to creative differences. Filming on the project was delayed until a new showrunner was found, but a replacement was never announced.

Duff posted the news that the Lizzie McGuire sequel series would not be moving forward on her Instagram, saying, "I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It's what the character deserves." Duff was a vocal proponent for Minsky's vision of the reboot, which involved more mature themes such as sex and cheating. This went against Disney's desire for the show to appeal to kids and families so it would be appropriate for its family-friendly Disney+ platform.

After news that the Love, Simon spinoff series, Love, Victor, was moved from Disney+ to Hulu earlier this year, Duff first broke her silence on Minsky's exit, commenting, "Sounds familiar." Since then, Duff has been vocal about Disney moving the Lizzie reboot to its sister platform Hulu. "It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu," Duff wrote in an Instagram post lin ate February.

As for Duff's most recent announcement, two episodes had been filmed for the Lizzie McGuire revival before Minsky left the project. Adam Lamberg, Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine and Jake Thomas were set to return to the series in their previous roles.

Meanwhile, Disney+ is preparing to premiere its upcoming Marvel superhero show WandaVision on its platform. The series will air on Jan. 15, 2021, and is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Wanda and Vision are now living a suburban life, but upon realizing their new life is made up of several sitcom television tropes from throughout the decades, they begin to realize that everything is not what it seems. Disney aired a new WandaVision trailer in anticipation of the series during its Investor Day 2020 presentation.
