Disney’s revival of Lizzie McGuire was reported to involve mature topics and themes -- including sex and cheating.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first episode of the revival featured a millennial McGuire who is dealing with relationships and cheating in New York City. Series star Hillary Duff has wanted to take the former Disney Channel show in a more serious and grown-up direction.

Duff said in a recent Instagram post that she didn’t want to limit "the realities of a 30 year old's journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating."

The creator of Lizzie McGuire, Terri Minksy, was left the project back in January and production halted in a bid to bring a more "family friendly" approach to the revival. Both Minsky and Duff have called for Disney to send the series to Hulu instead of the more family-focused Disney+. Duff has taken to Instagram to voice her desire for a more mature product.

"It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again,” Duff said.
