Disney is gearing up for a sequel to last year's live-action Aladdin remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Guy Ritchie will return to the helm the sequel, with Power Rangers scribe John Gatins and The Kitchen's Andrea Berloff boarding the project as writers. Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith are expected to return as Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie, respectively.

When Aladdin hit theaters early last year, the film managed to score $355 million at the domestic box office, with an even more impressive $1.05 billion at the worldwide box office. Following this, Disney conducted a writers room to brainstorm sequel ideas for the followup. At the time of writing, the sequel's story details are being kept under wraps, though this writers room reportedly explored other stories from the One Thousand and One Nights collection of Middle Eastern folklore.

The first film was co-written by Ritchie and John August. Like Ritchie, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will return for the sequel as producers, with Ryan Halprin will executive producing.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, Aladdin stars Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Will Smith as Genie, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan of Agrabah, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Frank Welker and Alan Tudyk as the voices of Abu and Iago, respectively. Aladdin is available now on digital and Blu-ray.
