The DOOM series is one of the most influential of all of videogames. When many think to first-person-shooters it's actually one of the first to come to mind. This classic from ID Software was revamped by Bethesda into the 2016 breakout title DOOM (2016) and has grown a whole new following from a new generation.

This game has a lot going for it including a surprisingly well put together story. This story is being continued in the sequel to this blockbuster title, DOOM Eternal. This game will be answering a lot of questions as too will this list that will teach you a few things that you may have not known about the title character, the Doom Slayer.

10 IT'S STILL NOT TRULY CONFIRMED WHAT HE IS

One thing that has been long thought about by fans of DOOM (2016) is whether Doom Slayer is human or something more. While many believe that the game hints at a few conclusions it still hasn't been fully confirmed exactly what he is, as the game really tries its best at keeping this mysterious character as mysterious as possible.

This leaves DOOM Eternal as the hope of fans all over to finally tell everyone if this demon-hating badass is a human, god or even some kind of demon from Hell himself. While the game has stated that he's human there are still some twists that could end up being revealed.

9 QUAKE CHAMPIONS SAYS THAT HE'S A HUMAN

Doom Slayer isn't only the main and title character of DOOM (2016). He also appears in the first-person-shooter title by ID Software and Bethesda titled Quake Champions. In this game Doom Slayer was revealed as the main character as he has in previous games of the Quake series.

Yes, this series says that Doom Slayer or "Doom Marine" is a human. Not only is he human but he's apparently the same Doom Marine from the classic games. However, this was probably throw out the window for the actual new DOOM rebooted timeline.

8 ONE OF HIS ABILITIES IS LITERALLY BEING A BADASS

The Doom Slayer is a man of many talents and those talents have lead him to become one of the most recognizable characters in the world of videogames. He began as a normal dude that got sent to Mars for disobeying his general and then got stuck in a demon invasion from hell.

This leads him to battle the forces of Hell for years on end, driven by the fact that he absolutely hates demons. This is justified by one of his abilities being the fact that he's straight-up just a badass.

7 HE'S ACTUALLY VERY INTELLIGENT

Doom Slayer

While the Doom Slayer may seem like a bit of a primitive being during a playthrough of his game he's actually quite the opposite. Things like his love of destruction and his very (seemingly) basic hatred of demons may lead fans to believe the opposite but his constant resort to violence is just a ruse.

The Doom Slayer comes from a highly advanced civilization and technology was no small thing back where he's from. This leads the Slayer to be able to use tech from other worlds with the greatest of ease, even though he'd rather not waste the time and will smash the tech until it works instead.

6 QUAKE STATES THAT HE'S A TIME-TRAVELER

In the game Quake Champions it is said that the Doom Slayer is the same marine from the classic DOOM games despite some very drastic changes that the character has undergone visually. His bio is even taken straight from the Slayer Testaments in DOOM (2016).

How is this possible? Well, the game states that the Doom Slayer/Marine has traveled through "worlds and time" and says that this has led him on a path of being in battle with demons of Hell for "eons of time" which have made him a legend feared in Hell.

5 THE NEW AND OLD SUIT HAVE A FEW SIMILARITIES

While the Doom Slayer and the classic Doom Marine have a lot of visual differences in their armor and physique, their suits actually both have quite a few similarities. Both suits have company logos located somewhere on the armor and even have production numbers placed on them as well.

This is a bit odd due to the fact that it's said that the armor that they wear was created in Hell for the sole purpose of fighting the hordes of demons.

4 SCRIPTURES HAVE EVIDENCE OF THE SLAYER BEING THE MARINE

There is a lot of evidence supporting the theory of the Doom Slayer and the Doom Marine being the same character but with different looks and many fans are looking at the upcoming DOOM Eternal as the final confirmation for this theory.

One of these pieces of evidence can be found in some scriptures in Quake Champions that depict the Doom Slayer. The thing about these scriptures is that they show the Slayer in the classic Doom Marine armor.

3 HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN USE THE POWER-UPS

The power-ups that can be picked up and used throughout the DOOM games actually have a bit of lore tied to them. These power-ups including Berserker and Haste are said to be tools that will drive a normal human mad and will end up killing them if used.

Of course, throughout the game, the Doom Slayer constantly picks up and uses these power-ups with no issue. This makes him the only human user that can use these without issue.

2 THERE IS A REASON THAT HE GETS STRONGER FROM KILLING DEMONS

Another thing that the game has lore for is the fact that the Doom Slayer grows more powerful after killing the demons. This is actually one of the best things about the DOOM series.

The game states that once the Doom Slayer kills he is able to absorb the soul of the one he kills. This is because the Seraphim gave him this ability after rescuing him.

1 HE WILL BE BACK ON EARTH FOR DOOM ETERNAL

DOOM (2016) left the game on a note that was begging to be continued from and DOOM Eternal is looking to continue things in the best way possible, much to the pleasure of every fan.

DOOM Eternal will be taking a page out of the book of DOOM 2 and has the demons of Hell invading Earth. The Doom Slayer will be going back to his home planet in the Fortress of Doom and ripping and tearing until it's done once again.
