Disney's streak of live-action remakes of their animated classics continues next month with the release of "Beauty and the Beast." The live-action film will feature Emma Watson in the role of Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, and a veritable who's who of Hollywood talent in the supporting roles (both human and anthropomorphic object).
The remake will also feature new takes on classic tunes, some of which we've already heard (like Emma Watson singing "Something There"). Now Disney has released the new take on the film's theme, "Beauty and the Beast," as performed by Ariana Grande and John Legend.
The 1991 radio single version of the tune was sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson. In the original animated film, Angela Lansbury -- as Mrs. Potts -- sung the song while Belle and the Beast danced in the ballroom. Emma Thompson provides the voice for Mrs. Potts in the live-action film, although it's not yet known if she'll be belting out this tune during a similar scene in the film.
Directed by Bill Condon, the film also stars Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
“Beauty and the Beast” arrives in theaters March 17, 2017.
