Lionsgate Enlists 'Hunger Games' Veterans For 'The Odyssey'

Lionsgate hopes to recreate some of that "Hunger Games" magic in a retelling of Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey."

To that end, Deadline reports the studio has recruited franchise director Francis Lawrence, "Mockingjay" screenwriter Peter Craig and franchise producer Nina Jacobson. The plan is to dive into production early next year, as soon as the team completes promotion of the November-premiering "Mockingjay -- Part 2."A pillar of Western literature, "The Odyssey" is a sequel to "The Iliad" that recounts the 10-year journey home of the Greek hero Odysseus following the fall of Troy. According to Deadline, Lawrence intends to make this his next project.
