The Lion King: Mufasa's Legacy Lives on in New Teaser

Lion King poster

The newest teaser trailer for the upcoming Lion King remake is a perfect reminder of Mufasa's legacy.

The teaser begins with Rafiki asking Simba who he is. In the span of 30 seconds, we're given the essence of his growth -- with some help from the wise baboon -- as he transitions from "I'm nobody" to "I am Simba, son of Mufasa." The teaser accompanies all this with shots that reflect the most memorable and significant scenes from the 1994 animated film, from a glimpse of Mufasa's spirit in the clouds to the final confrontation between Simba and Scar.

According to director Jon Favreau, only one key element in the upcoming remake remains completely faithful to the original animated film: Mufasa. It will be interesting to see how the remake updates Simba's relationship with his father and whether or not his emotional journey changes.

Opening in theaters on July 19, director Jon Favreau's The Lion King features the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, Florence Kasumba, Eric André, Keegan-Michael Key, JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and James Earl Jones.
