Video game publisher Square Enix's Life Is Strange series of graphic adventure games gets a brand-new entry this September in the form of Life Is Strange: True Colors.

True Colors takes the Life Is Strange series from the west coast to the fictional mountain town of Haven Springs, Colorado. The game follows Alex Chen, who was raised in foster care and possesses the power of psychic empathy. However, Alex's long-awaited reunion with her brother Gabe is cut short when he is killed in a mysterious accident, at which point Alex begins using her power in an effort to find out what really happened. The trailer introduces viewers to this conflict, as well as illustrates how Alex experiences her empathic abilities.

True Colors is developed by Deck Nine, the developer behind Life Is Strange: Before the Storm. Before the Storm released in 2017 as a direct prequel to developer Dontnod Entertainment's original Life Is Strange game, which itself released in 2015. Dontnod continued the main series in 2018 with The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, a free game that serves as a prelude to Life Is Strange 2, which Dontnod released from 2018 to 2019.

True Colors is a departure from the rest of the Life Is Strange series in that the entire game will be released all at once, as opposed to the episodic releases of previous entries. It is very much in the same universe, however. In fact, Steph -- a returning character from Deck Nine's Before the Storm -- appears in True Colors as a key character and potential love interest for Alex, with her other potential love interest being a new character named Ryan. Like with previous Life Is Strange games, True Colors features pre-order-exclusive content, namely four additional outfits Alex can wear throughout her adventure.
