Square Enix's Life Is Strange Remastered Collection includes graphically-updated versions of the original Life Is Strange game, developed by Dontnod Entertainment, and its direct prequel, Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, developed by Deck Nine. Life Is Strange Remastered and Life Is Strange: Before the Storm Remastered were originally slated to launch with the Ultimate Edition of Life Is Strange: True Colors on Sept. 10, with the Remastered Collection then expected to get a standalone release at a later date. Back in August, however, it was announced that the Remastered Collection had been delayed to early 2022, though a specific date was not given at the time.

Set in the quiet fishing town of Arcadia Bay, Oregon, Dontnod's Life Is Strange was originally released as a five-episode graphic adventure game in 2015. The title follows main protagonist Max Caulfield, a teenage girl who -- armed with mysterious time-manipulation powers -- attempts to uncover Arcadia Bay's dark secrets. Deck Nine's Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, a three-episode prequel starring Max's best friend and player-determinant love interest, Chloe Price, launched in 2017.

Dontnod returned to the Life Is Strange series in 2018 for Life Is Strange 2, another five-episode title following playable protagonist Sean Diaz and his psychokinetic brother, Daniel, on their journey from Seattle, Washington to the United States-Mexico border. Dontnod also developed Life Is Strange 2's free 2018 prelude title, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

Dontnod appears to be done with Life Is Strange for the time being, with Life Is Strange: True Colors being developed by Deck Nine. The fifth Life Is Strange game overall, True Colors effectively serves as Life Is Strange 3, making it the franchise's first mainline title to not be developed by Dontnod. True Colors, launched as a complete adventure earlier this month, eschewing the franchise's episodic format. The new game follows protagonist Alex Chen, a psychic empath trying to get to the bottom of her brother's mysterious death.
