Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has revealed his official variant cover for Marvel Comics' Spider-Man #1, which promises to bring about the "End of the Spider-Verse."Liefeld's Spider-Man #1 variant pays homage to Liefeld's own cover art for New Mutants #98, with Spidey himself standing in for Deadpool, complete with what appears to be a pair of swords made out of webbing. Moreover, Venom stands in for Gideon, while Scream stands in for Domino. The faces of such villains as Vulture, Doctor Octopus and the Green Goblin loom large in the background. Liefeld appears to have deleted his initial post featuring the full-color version of the cover, though a post featuring the line-art version remains live.RELATED: Miles Morales Finds New Creative Team in Spider-Punk's Ziglar, Vicentini

This is not the first time Liefeld has crafted a new variant cover based on his classic cover art for New Mutants #98. In fact, the artist recently did just that for the celebratory New Mutants #30, which marks the 40th anniversary of the X-Men spinoff title. Originally published in December 1990 (with a cover date of February 1991), New Mutants #98 is notable for featuring the first appearances of Deadpool and Domino, as well as Ophrah Industries, consisting of Gideon, Adam and Eve.

The End of the Spider-Verse Is Here

Meanwhile, the first issue in a new series, Spider-Man #1 comes from the creative team of writer Dan Slott and artist Mark Bagley, two creators well known for their work on the wall-crawler's flagship title, Amazing Spider-Man. Spider-Man #1's main cover art comes from Bagley and Alejandro Sánchez Rodríguez. In addition to Liefeld, the issue features variants from such artists as Arthur Adams, Frank Miller and Ryan Stegman.

"'The End of the Spider-Verse' is here!" the official solicit for Spider-Man #1 reads. "Morlun is back and he is not alone. Allied with one of the most powerful beings known to the Spider-Verse, the scariest Spider-Villain of all time is making his biggest play and no Spider is safe. Especially not the Chosen Spider himself, Peter Parker. With Peter working for Norman Osborn and using a glider... does he have it coming? Spidey's 60th Anniversary is no joke as two of the most legendary Spider-Creators are working together on Spidey for the first time and you know it's going to be one for the record books!"

Written by Dan Slott and illustrated by Mark Bagley, Spider-Man #1 goes on sale Oct. 5 from Marvel Comics, followed by issue #2 on Nov. 9 and issue #3 on Dec. 7.
