DC has released a look at this week's Justice League #39, which marks the end of Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez's run. The panel features Lex Luthor doing something that would have been unthinkable at the beginning of the "Justice Doom War" story arc: apologizing.

"Lex Luthor has done a lot of surprising things in the past year, but this may be the most shocking moment of all: apologizing?!" the caption from the DC Nation Twitter account reads. "Justice League #39, the finale of@Ssnyder1835 and @JorgeJimenezArt's run on the series, is on sale Wednesday." Jimenez's art shows Luthor grasping his head while whispering, "I'm sorry."

Luthor was turned into "Apex Lex" by Perpetua during "Justice Doom War," which mixes Luthor with martian DNA to create a new hybrid species. Apex Lex then offered his gifts to the villains and citizens of the DC Universe, with the hope of tipping the balance of power from Justice to Doom, thus allowing Perpetua to recreate the universe in her image.

Snyder, Jimenez and Jim Cheung relaunched Justice League in 2018. Jimenez will next move on to Batman with Snyder's Justice League co-writer James Tynion IV. Meanwhile, Snyder will reunite later this year with Greg Capullo for a secret DC project.

Justice League #9 by Scott Snyder, Jorge Jimenez, Daniel Sampere, Juan Albarran, Alejandro Sanchez and Tom Napolitano goes on sale Wednesday, Jan. 29 from DC Comics.
