At 6' 3" it's hard to miss Clancy Brown when he appears on screen. It also helps that he has a deep and resonant voice that cuts through all the others. His versatility as an actor has allowed him to appear in many movies (HighlanderStarship Troopers) and TV series (The FlashDaredevil).

However, what many kids and adults alike might know Brown from is his voice work. Starting with Gargoyles in the mid-'90s, he has voiced dozens of characters on numerous animated series. That includes, among others, Superman's arch-nemesis, the miserly owner of the Krusty Krab, and much more.

10 Lex Luthor (DC Animated Universe)

Brown plays a smooth Lex Luthor.

When Brown took over the voice duties of Lex Luthor in Superman: The Animated Series he went in a different direction from others. Instead of going the brash route, the voice actor made Luthor a smooth operator. He maintained his composure through numerous incidents with the Man of Steel, rarely getting truly angry.

Thus, Brown became the go-to voice once Superman: TAS ended. He reprised the role in the Justice League series as well as animated films like Batman/Superman: Public Enemies. Brown's style was duplicated by other actors who took on the role in future DCAU entries.

9 Mr. Krabs (SpongeBob SquarePants)

Some cartoon characters wouldn't be who they are if they had a different voice. Mr. Krabs is one of these characters. Greedy and condescendingly kind at the same time, Brown is the right man to have taken on the job of this SpongeBob SquarePants personality.

Out of all the characters Brown voices, he's been most prolific as Mr. Krabs. He's voiced the anthropomorphic sea creature for over two decades, in hundreds of episodes as well as three films and various other forms of media.

8 King Frederic (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure)

King Frederic has a lighter touch than Brown's other voices.

Not every voice role Brown takes on is a villain or a grump. Take King Frederic in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure. Here, he gives sound to a character that didn't speak a word during Tangled, the Disney film the TV show is based on.

Thanks to the resonance of his voice, Frederic sounds regal with each word he says. Still, when talking to his wife, or his daughter Rapunzel, Brown can adjust his tones so he sounds soothing.

7 Taskmaster (Ultimate Spider-Man)

The DCAU isn't the exclusive home to Brown's voice talents. He's also delved a good deal into the Marvel Animated Universe as well. One of the characters he's portrayed is the villain Taskmaster.

Though not an arch-nemesis of Spider-Man, Taskmaster was in 10 episodes of the wall-crawler's first Disney XD series. He also appeared in nearly a dozen episodes of Avengers Assemble. Brown voices the criminal with a combination of Luthor's smoothness and Mr. Krabs' gravelly tones.

6 Red Hulk (Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.)

The Red Hulk sounds like a constantly angry Mr. Krabs.

There was a time in the history of Hulk comics where everyone seemed to get a dose of gamma radiation. One of those people was General Thunderbolt Ross. The man who once tried to kill Bruce Banner's ego actually became the Red Hulk.

In Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Brown voiced this character. If anyone wanted to know how Mr. Krabs sounded when constantly angry, they didn't have to look much further than the animated version of the Red Hulk. It fit well into the lighter tone of the series.

5 Savage Opress (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)

Brown voices Savage with an ominous tone.

Brown has also voiced some characters in a galaxy far, far away. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he portrayed Savage Opress, the brother of Darth Maul.

Those who didn't think Brown's voice could go deeper were proven wrong with his portrayal of the antagonist. It wasn't only lower than his normal voice, but it was flatter. Still, Brown made sure Opress was as ominous as possible.

4 Ryder Azadi (Star Wars Rebels)

Brown voices Ryder as a symbol of hope.

On the other hand, Brown's portrayal of Ryder Azadi in Star Wars Rebels is downright cheerful. The darkness in his voice is lifted an octave higher. However, it doesn't make this former Moff the comedic relief of the series.

Azadi becomes a prominent leader in the Rebel Alliance. This series shows how it came to pass and how he helped others join the cause. Through his voice acting, Brown presents a character who is positive that things will turn out okay.

3 Grune (Thundercats [2011])

Grune is voiced as someone sure of himself.

Through the former Thundercat known as Grune was in the original 1980s series, he wasn't voiced by Brown. That didn't happen until the Thundercats remake of the 2010s that aired on Cartoon Network.

In this version, Grune and Panthro have a rivalry that transformed as they went from friends to enemies. Brown doesn't portray the villain as menacing. Rather, his voice has a combination of lightness and assuredness that he has the power to defeat the Thundercats.

2 Mister Sinister (Wolverine and the X-Men)

Sinister and Lex Luthor have similar tones.

In Wolverine and the X-Men, Brown plays Mister Sinister as the Marvel version of Lex Luthor. It makes sense: Both are extremely intelligent and see what they do as bettering the world instead of destroying it.

Still, there's a little more anger to Sinister than Luthor. He's a bit mad after his transformation by Apocalypse and the inability to free himself. So, when something goes wrong, he reacts in kind.

1 Hakon (Gargoyles)

Brown really flexed his ability to menace while voicing this long-ago antagonist of Goliath and the other gargoyles from the cult classic Disney series. Picture Lex Luthor as a Viking warrior who brought his men to Scotland to plunder its riches.

Though dead for a long period, Hakon's spirit still haunts Scotland. In one episode, Goliath returns to Avalon with Angela and Bronx only to be taken control of by the evil-doer. Of course, as happens to most antagonists, Hakon is taken down by the gargoyle team's leader.
