Jared Leto has talked about the lengths he went to in order to get into the mind of the Joker for "Suicide Squad," which involved staying completely in character and gifting his co-stars animals both alive and dead. While talking with TNT Brasil on the Academy Awards' red carpet, Leto clarified that while he did interact with his co-stars, it wasn't as himself.

"I did interact, but I did it through the eyes of the Joker -- which is really fun," Leto told TNT Brasil. "It was fun to play that game... It was interesting to take on this challenge. It was unlike anything I've ever done before."

Leto also had praise for his director, David Ayer, saying, "He's great! He's an animal. I love him."

Directed by David Ayer and starring Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and more, "Suicide Squad" opens on August 5.
