Leia Organa is one of the main characters of the Star Wars franchise, and yet a huge portion of her life remains relatively unexplored. The time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens features a lot of big changes for Leia. She goes from being a Princess and Rebel Leader, to a founding member of the New Republic, and lastly to a Resistance General. She endures much in this time, and an animated series would truly help to do her character justice. Her character could act as the gateway to exploring this gap in Star Wars history.

While there have been a few books, like Star Wars Bloodlines, that have explored portions of this time period, a show could be much more in-depth. After the end of the Empire, the New Republic was formed, and Leia was part of it. She lost much of her political reputation when it was uncovered that she was the daughter of Darth Vader. When the First Order rose to power, she became a founding member of the Resistance and led the fight against the new evil of the galaxy.

Storytelling through animation has a long history in Star Wars. Much of the new-found love for the Prequel Trilogy can be attributed to Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Animation has done a lot for Star Wars and kept the love for the franchise alive when there were no movies coming out. Leia's story could be greatly expanded in an animated series. The series could explore what the early days of the New Republic were like, how Leia's and Han's relationship fell apart and how Leia came to terms with her lineage.

Seeing the rise and fall of the New Republic through Leia's eyes could also help clarify some aspects of the Sequel Trilogy. A Leia-focused animated series could do for the Sequels what Clone Wars did for the Prequels. Many fans would also love to see more of Leia training in the Force with Luke. It would be great to see how much training Leia undertook and why she decided not to purse the life of a Jedi. Would Luke have made her leave her life with Han behind her and forsake any attachments? Or did she simply not feel like the Force was calling her to that path? This would all add a lot of depth and insight to her decisions in the Sequel Trilogy.

Leia could be the focal point for the entire 30-year gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. While some people may want Luke to be the focus, Leia interacts with more parts of the galaxy and the big events that take place. An animated series is also a great medium for this as it helps sidestep any issues that may arise from recasting or from de-aging and deepfaking a different actor for an entire live-action series. While some people associate animation with children stories, that isn't the case. Animation is merely a different medium to tell stories in, and it can be used to tell an incredibly compelling story.

Exploring Leia's life in an animated series would benefit not only her story, but the Star Wars universe as a whole. Her story could be the lens through which many major galactic events are viewed. While Leia has been a mainstay in the Star Wars universe since the beginning of the franchise, she is often the least explored character. The focus typically tends to be on Luke since he was the Jedi, and some fans find that more interesting. Leia can add context to the fall of Ben Solo and the rise of Kylo Ren, as well as why the Resistance started as a separate entity from the New Republic.
