LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga allows gans to play the game in the order of which film trilogy they prefer, according to senior producer James Burgon.

"From the offset, we wanted to let players start at the trilogy they connected with the most," Burgon told GameSpot. "Reiterating the fact that the Skywalker saga spans decades and fans of all ages, we knew players would want to jump into the action of their fondest trilogy; Newcomers to the Star Wars galaxy may want to jump straight to Jakku with Rey and BB-8, or our more veteran players may want to start where it all began on the Tantive IV. As freedom was one of our key pillars during development, we knew we had to give fans the option to jump straight into the trilogy they wanted to."

When players begin the game, they will be given the option of selecting levels based on either The Phantom Menace, A New Hope, or The Force Awakens -- the first movies of the prequel, original and sequel trilogies, respectively. Players will unlock further levels as they progress until all nine movies in the Skywalker Saga are available.

Players will also be able to travel around the known galaxy and visit iconic locations from each of the movies. A galaxy map from the game shows off a number of famous planets, such as the icy Hoth, the fiery Mustafar, and the Porg-infested hills of Ahch-To. "Legendary vehicles" will take players from planet to planet, and the game will also give the option of playing mini-games, such as tracking down bounties in light gunships or taking on a massive Imperial Star Destroyer.

As well as including all of the main film stories and locations, a large number of characters will also be playable. A recent video showed 10 different versions of Luke Skywalker, ranging from the farm boy clothes worn in A New Hope to his robes seen in The Last Jedi. In all, the game is expected to have around 400 playable characters which will be unlocked by progressing through the game. Another unlockable feature is 'mumble mode' -- a mode that will see all spoken dialogue replaced by mumbles, in a homage to the original LEGO Star Wars games.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is set for release on April 5 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
