At the end of Star Wars: the Rise of Skywalker, Rey activates her new yellow lightsaber, marking the first time viewers have seen the distinct color in live-action. While that short moment was all the spotlight the yellow blade received on the big screen, the trailer for the upcoming LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special shows Rey putting her new weapon on full display.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special follows Rey and her friends as they prepare for Life Day, a celebration first introduced in 1978's Star Wars Holiday Special. However, Rey somehow finds herself stuck in a time-traveling adventure that features all iconic Star Wars characters from every era. And the trailer for the special reveals that, during her journey, Rey will fight the likes of Darth Vader and Kylo Ren with her yellow lightsaber.

Jedi Temple Guards hold lightsabers ready for combat

Typically, most Jedi in the Star Wars franchise use either a blue or green blade. Yellow lightsabers were traditionally used by Jedi Sentinels, one of the three distinct classes of the Jedi Order who travel throughout the galaxy, immersing themselves in other cultures and honing their skills outside of the Force and lightsaber combat.

These distinct blades were also utilized by the Temple Guards, whose sole purpose was to defend the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, as seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The most recent appearance of the weapon outside of The Rise of Skywalker, though, came in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, where players had the option to give Cal Kestis a yellow lightsaber.

With Rey being the first in what will likely be a resurgence of Jedi, her yellow blade showcases her uniqueness. Blue and green may have been good enough for her master, Luke Skywalker, but her journey will be vastly different, and her weapon needs to reflect that. Without any more live-action appearances lined-up, Rey's adventure will continue in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, yellow lightsaber and all.

Directed by Ken Cunningham and written by David Shayne, The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special stars Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), as well as Star Wars: The Clone Wars vets Matt Lanter (Anakin Skywalker), Tom Kane (Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Dee Bradley Baker (clone troopers). The film is scheduled to premiere Nov. 17 on Disney+.
