A LEGO enthusiast has flexed their design muscles by recreating one of PlayStation's most recognizable consoles with the interconnecting bricks.

Submitted to the official LEGO Idea's page, creator RevanBuilds managed to capture the compact delight that was the PlayStation Portable, otherwise known as the PSP. The theoretical design features everything fans might recall about the handheld console, including accurately placed face buttons and a direction pad. The grey accents running around the center of the console tie the design together, even though the absence of the singular analog stick may confuse some gamers.

"I have built this model because, as a kid, I always wanted a PSP, and I built one made out of LEGO," writes RevanBuilds. "This week, taking advantage on [sic] the freedom available with computer programs, I've improved my first model with more accurate pieces and several stickers." The creator's build has received support from 159 different users, with another 416 days left on the design's campaign. "I believe this would make a nice LEGO set because it doesn't have many pieces, hence being more affordable for LEGO fans," continued RevanBuilds.

The LEGO Ideas initiative allows aspiring designers to submit their best builds for fellow users to vote on. Models that achieve a certain amount of support go on to become officially licensed LEGO products, with the creators earning a cut of the revenue the product generates. Projects that started their life out as an Idea include the LEGO Typewriter, the Sonic the Hedgehog set and a faithful recreation of the NASA Apollo Saturn V.

As for the PSP, the system is fondly remembered by gamers for its robust and innovative selection of titles. Beyond successful spin-offs of established franchises such as Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker, Daxter and God of War: Ghost of Sparta, it spawned original series like LocoRoco, Patapon and Crush.

While it's currently unknown whether Sony will ever make another attempt at the handheld market, the PSP's library may live through another system. A recent report suggests that PlayStation is looking to introduce a new subscriptions service to trivial Xbox Game Pass. While nothing is known about this plan, insiders say that it will feature a plethora of games pulled from every PlayStation system ever made, including the PSP. It remains to be seen whether such a service will be implemented.
