Noah Hawley's surreal drama series Legion, about a powerful mutant whose sanity is constantly questioned, is returning to FX this summer for its third and final season. The date of the premiere has just been announced: Monday, June 24.

Legion draws on the source material of Marvel comics, although many of its characters are original to the TV show. The story centers on David Haller, played by Dan Stevens, a young man who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, but also displays a wide variety of uncontrolled and unsettling superpowers.

The first season deals with David's struggle against the anti-mutant agency that is hunting him, his introduction to a secret group of mutant allies and his romance with Syd (Rachel Keller), whose own supernatural abilities led her into the same psychiatric institute as David. In the second season, David is learning to use his powers and is intent on destroying his lifelong nemesis, Amahl Farouk (Navid Negahban), who has been haunting him as a kind of psychic parasite.

After a cliffhanger season finale in which David breaks ties with his former friends, showing signs of corruption as well as a resurgence of his mental illness, Season 3 will serve as the final act of the three-part story.
