The newest title announced as part of Marvel's upcoming Destiny of X era of the X-Men line of books is Legion of X by former X-Men Legacy, X-Force and Way of X writer Si Spurrier and Winter Guard and Star Wars artist Jan Bazaldua, as a new team of heroes put together by Professor X's Omega-level mutant son, Legion, must help to protect Krakoa from any internal threats that it will face.

The team consists of Legion (who will host the team in his psychedelic mindscape known as the Altar), Nightcrawler, Pixie, Juggernaut, Blindfold, Dr. Nemesis and more (including, based on the teaser image, a return of the awesome ForgetMeNot from Spurrier's X-Men: Legacy and X-Force series).

The series will follow up on some of the themes that Spurrier had previously explored in Way of X (Nightcrawler continues his lead role from that series), specifically that we know that there are a number of laws that mutants have to live under on Krakoa, but while it is easy enough to enforce a law, is "justice" really being done with these laws?

Legion of X will deal with that concept while also tackling some of the most dangerous new threats from within on Krakoa, including a villain who can possess innocent mutants and a missing Arakkii god.

Spurrier shared his thoughts on the new series with Marvel, explaining, "I’ve wanted to do a precinct-style ensemble story since I first read HOUSE OF X. For the first time, the Marvel Universe has this densely packed, beautiful (and beautifully volatile) population of superhumans, out in the open, all in one place. It needs peacekeepers, sure… but it’s a mistake to think of them as simply cops. You don’t get far in Krakoa if the limit of your imagination is beating people up or reaching for a gun. Mutant civilization needs those who think differently. That’s where Nightcrawler, Legion, Pixie and Juggernaut come in -- along with a rotating cast of your favorite mutants and non-mutants. And a couple of new faces you're going to want to watch very, very closely..."

He also discussed working with Basaldua, “I couldn’t be prouder to be helming this new title, with the incredible Jan Bazaldua doing the work of her life. It’s no secret that the writers of the X-office have formed one of the tightest cells of additive cross-title creativity in our industry. It’s no exaggeration to say that the events you’ll encounter in LEGION OF X are dominoes being flipped whose chains of repercussion will feed the greatest earthquake in modern comicdom, which is rumbling devastatingly down the pipe towards you even now...”

The new series debuts on April 20th, with a cover by Dike Ruan and a variant teaser cover by Bob Quinn.
