As Marvel Comics readers know Dan Stevens' character is actually the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier, and one of the most powerful minds on the planet. Whether he's also mentally unstable is perhaps one of the central questions of the series, developed by "Fargo" creator Noah Hawley.

Set in a "different world" from the X-Men film franchise, follows a diagnosed schizophrenic who's been in and out of psychiatric wards for years. However, following a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he's confronted with the possibility that he's a mutant with inexplicable powers.

With ‘Legion,’ we’re our own universe," executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently confirmed. "It gives Noah [Hawley] the freedom to do what he wants to do. Because we play with so many different timelines, and we rebooted and not really rebooted and all that, we felt like, OK, we’re going to throw it out there and hope the fans accept it.”

Premiering Feb. 8 on FX, "Legion's" eight-episode first season also stars Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Aubrey Plaza, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Bill Irwin.
